Choose-your-own-adventure with dnd vibes
Choose-your-own-adventure with some good old dungeon-crawling, dnd vibes and dice rolling. Finally something that has a dnd feel to it but without as much work for introducing dnd nubes to role-playing games.I have missed playing DnD so much but I don't have the time to invest in a campaign, nor friends who would be interested, nor enough knowledge and experience to be a DM. But then I stumbled across this and decided to take a chance. So glad I did!We have some friends who love to play board games but have never played DnD before so I was hoping to find something with that DnD feel but without the extra work of DM-ing and whatnot. I think this is it. Yeah, it's supposed to be for one to three people but, in true role-playing fashion you could fudge the rules slightly to make it work for one or two more people to play. I will absolutely be ordering all of the expansions and the Hildegard game as well.

You want this in your collection
I’m having a really fun time with this game. It’s very easy to learn and jump right into. The choose your own path makes the story and game feel alive. Even though dice are involved, the other mechanics keep it from feeling like a complete game of chance. There’s a bit of resource management in play that really make you choose your strategy carefully. If you’re looking for a D&D type vibe with minimal setup, you have to pick this up. It’s totally worth every penny.

Masterpiece!
A Dark, Atmospheric Gem of a Solo/Co-op Adventure!Spires End is an absolute standout in the world of indie board games. From the moment you open the box, you’re immersed in a beautifully crafted world dripping with mystery and dread. The art is stunning—moody, black-white-red illustrations that feel straight out of a graphic novel, perfectly setting the tone for the grim tales that unfold.Gameplay-wise, it strikes a perfect balance between narrative choice and tense, dice based combat. Every decision feels meaningful, and the branching paths give it a lot of replayability. The game is easy to learn but challenging to master, and it never feels repetitive thanks to the rich storytelling and unexpected twists.Whether you’re playing solo or with a partner, Spires End delivers a gripping, cinematic experience that keeps you hooked from start to finish. If you’re into atmospheric storytelling, gorgeous design, and high-stakes adventure, this is a must-have for your collection.Cannot recommend enough!

Incredibly cool and aesthetically dark solo game
Such a cool thematic solo adventure! If you remember Choose Your Own Adventure books, that's basically what Spire's End is, but rather than having to hold your finger on the page where you made that final fatal decision, you can just immediately replace your character with a new one and keep soldiering forward! I've met quite a few gruesome ends playing this, but always enjoyed my games regardless. One of the most delightful elements of the game is how EVERYTHING is on the tarot-sized cards. This includes the rules, which are set up in a fashion that is reminiscent of a video game tutorial.

Choose your own adventure
If you ever read one of those "Choose your own adventure" books as a kid, the kind where you read a few paragraphs, then make a choice that tells you which page to turn to, then the story continues, this will hit your nostalgia button pretty hard. The game is played through a deck of giant, oversized tarot cards, with very stylish black/white/red art everywhere. Most cards are a bit of story, then 2-3 choices about what your group of 7 (or fewer if some have died) does next. Other cards are treasure you've found, or creatures to fight.Combat is handled mainly through dice rolls, using your allies' health as a resource, with more powerful attacks costing your characters more health to attempt. You will die. You start with a group of 7 allies. I lost one in the first combat of my first run, and it only got more difficult from there. Some choices or dice rolls as the story builds lead to even more punishing battles.I've completed 2 runs so far, each running a little over an hour. One ended in utter defeat, with all 7 of my allies lost to the tower. One ended in a questionable victory. I survived, but it sure didn't feel like I accomplished much more than that. The card with that ending on it was titled "Ending X." I don't know if that means ending number ten, or if it's just an X for X's sake.I'll play it again. And again. At least until I feel like I've actually won. I get the feeling most of the endings are not good.Super cool solo adventure. Not something for the game night table.
