Nice little kit. Not sure how it compares to others but good bit of fun.

I have now ordered two of these and both times the same lock has arrived smashed.

Kept my teenager entertained for mths

Like most people getting this set, I wanted it for a bit of fun and as an educational toy. I have no experience in locksmithing or any real desire to do so. There are a lot of pieces that come with the kit, mainly different picks.I had a vague idea about how lock picking works after watching the lock picking lawyer, then using the manual that comes with it, I selected the right tools and succesfully picked the padlock with relative ease. Beginner's luck, second time was harder.It is really interesting to see the mechanisms move as you use the key. So for those are mechanically minded, these clear locks are great.It goes without saying that these locks are for. this set only and shouldn't be used to secure anything. The picks should also stay in your house. The police may take a dim vew of you carrying these around in public.The drawbacks, the manual is not written in the best English, not the worst though but as the manual here is aimed at teaching you a skill, it is an issue. The only other real issue I have is that one of the locks comes with a plastic key, which just doesn't work as well as an metal one.All in this would be a great gift for anyome mechanically minded.

Locks are not put together well.First one I took out of the box and all the springs / pins fell out.

This is a fairly comprehensive beginner's set, but the sample locks supplied with this will challenge the professional as well, I suspect.I do have some previous experience at playing around with lock picking tools and indeed already possess a kit, so I can say that this is a pretty good little kit with a basic set of lock picks and a few extras, like the mini set housed inside a dummy credit card. As far as I can see they are perfectly good and fit for purpose, and will give any mechanically-minded individual hours of adsorption and challenge.There is a set of commonly found locks that you may see in everyday life and a couple more that are an especial challenge (like the one with a double row of pins!)The instruction book is at the same time comprehensive and vague, but there are many, many videos online that will show how to use the tools, so its not a big problem.I would definitely advise anyone trying this for the first time to watch a few videos before getting to grips with this, as picking locks can be very tricky at first, and takes a while to get the right "feel" for the art, as you need to use just the right turning pressure when picking a lock, and it does take practice before you open your first lock, but it is very rewarding when you do!ConclusionThis is a great little kit, and I particularly liked the selection of practice see-thru locks (keys supplied). But it does take practice, and it won't be mastered in a couple of hours, so watch some videos!
