will this work on a round rug?

It will depend on the circumference of the rug. You could carefully trim the glue on edges ( triangular cuts) to get curvature but it will take attention to detail, will not be simple.

I have a 6x9 wool oriental rug that needs the side edges replaced. Has anyone tried this? I’m afraid to cut the old edge off with exacto blade!

I had a large carpet remnant (4x8) I bound with Instabind. It didn't have a binding to cut off, but if you're worried whether or not this product will work, don't-it worked like a dream. Just make sure you have a straight edge when you cut it and get the right color binding.
