A Tasty and Versatile Alternative to Cocoa
I only wish I had bought it sooner! I love chocolate, but over time, I have developed an allergy to it—one of my sons has as well. I bought this product for Christmas to replace our morning hot chocolate, and it was an amazing surprise. We love the flavor, texture, and versatility. I have been using it as a substitute for cocoa in many recipes, and it works fantastic for me. It blends well in cold drinks, though sometimes small lumps remain, and it also has great health benefits. Plus, the price is very reasonable for the quality.

A Comforting and Delicious Cocoa Alternative
I’ve really fallen in love with this carob powder. I originally bought it as a caffeine-free alternative to cocoa, and now it’s become a regular part of my kitchen. It has this naturally sweet, roasted flavor that feels so comforting.I use it in a lot of different ways—mixed with warm oat milk and a touch of cinnamon for an evening drink, blended into smoothies for a chocolatey taste without the caffeine, or even baked into muffins and pancakes for my daughter. She loves the taste and doesn’t even realize it’s not chocolate. It’s gentle on my stomach and doesn’t give me the jitters like cocoa sometimes does.I also love that it’s packed with fiber and doesn’t need any added sugar. It feels like such a nourishing choice, especially for our little family. This is one of those pantry staples I’m really glad I tried—it’s a small change that’s made a big difference.

You may need to experiment to find the best way to incorporate carob powder into your diet
I remember trying carob chips back in the 80's as a healthy snack substitute for chocolate chips, so I expected this powder to be sweeter and more like chocolate or cocoa, but it was not! We wanted to use this as a healthier substitute for cocoa in our coffee lattes. (I'm already using No Sugar Added cocoa and artificial sweetener with pretty good results) Carob powder added to coffee added very little sweetness and a strange flavor of its own so I experimented and tried replacing half my cocoa with carob powder along with my regular amount of artificial sweetener and arrived at a quite tasty coffee, carob. late blend. We noticed that on our first attempts to add carob to coffee, it had a powdery flavor and quite a bit of sediment in the bottom of the cup. This can be improved by heating coffee to about 180' or nearly boiling which will almost completely dissolve the carob powder, so if you like to add milk, you might want to do that last. We are hoping to incorporate more carob into our diets by experimenting with other foods, but I did notice that even this small amount at breakfast time, it substantially lengthened the amount of time before I got hungry for lunch, so its blood sugar stabilizing qualities are evident. I felt full and satiated much longer after eating my same old same old daily breakfast. Thanks to the other reviewers that warned us about the "Resealable Bag" which is an accident waiting to happen. We suggest transferring some carob powder to a small condiment jar next to your cocoa and put a large binder clip on the top of the bag. 04/23/25 We tried sprinkling the carob powder on top of No Sugar Added vanilla ice cream and it was delicious! Also added carob powder to evening coffee along with a real sugar & flour pastry desert but the carob kept my blood sugar nearly normal.

Good replacement for cocoa
I started using carob in place of much of the cocoa powder in my recipes to reduce oxalate consumption. Cocoa is high in oxalates, an antinutrient that can build up in your body and cause pain, according to my research. Carob has very little to no oxalates and, depending upon the recipe, is a really good substitute for cocoa. Of course, it doesn't taste precisely like cocoa; it is missing that depth of flavor found in chocolate. Powdered carob behaves much like cocoa in a recipe; it dissolves more readily in warm liquids, whereas it tends to float on top of cold ones. It can be used 1:1 to replace cocoa.

Great chocolate substitute
This is a substitute for hot chocolate. I have to stay away from chocolate. I add a tablespoon to a cup of hot water with a little honey and milk. You can add vanilla and whipped cream. It’s delicious. It is not chocolate and it does have a different taste. I love it!
