Delta Cycle Bike Strapless Toe Clips

They get the job done, once you buy your own washers. See the photos accompanying my review.
I'd give them 3.5 stars, if that were an option. They're certainly a good value, assuming they hold up. But there were a couple of issues. See photos attached for clarification. The "instructions" are amusing, alerting you to the fact that "Strapless Toe Clips do not include straps." Aside from that helpful tidbit, they consist solely of a digram showing the orientation of the toe clip, screws, and nuts, relative to the pedal. Along with 4 screws and 4 nuts (with with lock washers attached), the toe clips arrived with two metal rectangular plates with slotted holes that line up with the holes in the clips and those on the bike pedals. They aren't pictured in the mounting diagram, and there's no mention of what to do with them. Since the toe clips are just plastic, and the holes for the screws are slotted, and the screw heads aren't much wider than the holes, it would make sense to use each metal plate on the outside of each toe clip, so that the plastic toe clips would be sandwiched between the metal plates and the peddles. Unfortunately, the plates don't fit in that location, as they are wider than the space allowed. That's a shame, because when I hand tightened the screws, without the metal plate, the plastic easily deformed, and I doubt the toe clips would have gone long before breaking. Since my wife ordered them for her first triathlon, this didn't seem like a chance worth taking. So I took them off, then reinstalled them with some washers between the screw heads and the plastic clips. Now they seem sturdy enough to last a while. Overall, especially for the price, I'd recommend them, but if you don't have a bunch of washers waiting in your garage for just such an occasion, plan on a trip to the hardware store. Also note that if you have reflectors installed on both sides of your pedals, you're going to have to remove the ones on the side that you install the toe clips.

great toe clips for city riding
i was worried they'd be too flimsy and wouldn't really let me get power out of the up-stroke...i was pleasantly surprised that these hold my foot (size 10.5) really well.if you ride around the city and need to get in and out of your toe clips often, these are amazing.6/2016 Edit:Still going strong, still 5 stars. I just ordered another pair for another bike I have.Someone pulled out in front of me the other day to I had to hulk squeeze my brakes to come to a dead stop FAST. These let my feet out right away to catch myself before eating the pavement. Any other clip system and I would have gone down.

Solid choice!
I always put toe clips on my bike because it helps me with upswing power when I am pedaling. I do not like straps though because they are too hard to get out of. So toeclips give me the power I need without the safety concern of having to get out of straps. These were easy to install. My only gripe was the instructions, not terribly clear. But I have installed them before on other bikes, so not a huge issue for me.You need to find the back of your pedal, then orient these so they face backward when installed. You will need a Phillips screwdriver. This generally entails taking off one of your reflectors on your pedals. Quick to screw on. Only comment is the manufacturer doesn't tel you what to do with the two metal plates that are included in the bag!Bottom line: These are well made and easy to install and look sharp!

Comfortable and Easy to ride with
I started cycling and and was not ready to wear cycling shoes. I like have my feet free, at least at this point. However, using the pedals with no straps, sometimes, the pedal would get away from me and spin, or my foot would come off the pedal. I decided to try these as a compromise to help hold me feel on..This has done the trick. They put your foot where it needs to be helps you focus on the push and pull pedaling action. Some reviews state that they are too wide. The only problem that I had in the beginning, is if you lean the bike over to far, the clips tend to flip to the bottom, and they can hit. So I adjusted how far I lean the bike over. I get on the bike, and get my feel on the pedals, start cycling, then flip the pedals over to get them in the toe clips and I have not had any problems. The other thing you will have to watch is when you get off the bike, to pull your foot back to get out of the clip rather than slide it forward. I did that once, and almost fell,... Haven't done that since. They are really easy to ride with and comfortable. I wasn't sure how they would work, but I highly recommend them now to anyone that was to ride but don't want to be clipped in, and have your feet somewhat free.

Great buy, make sure to add your own metal washers
Ive used these for years across many bikes both for touring and my daily commutes and they are fantastic. I love to not be able to have to wear separate shoes for cycling but can still pull up on on the pedals with my feel. For city commuting the probably best thing about these is that you can pull up your pedal while waiting at a red light so you can easily push down to get started again. They hold up very well, in my 5 years and multiple pairs across bikes I have never had one break on the top or where your foot goes, and have only had one break where it comes to the pedal with a screw, that is why I know use small metal washers in addition to the screw and havent had a problem since. The package does come with a square metal bracket which I think serves the purpose of a washer which you can use, but a small metal washer does the trick alot better. Even without the washer it works great and I would highly recommend this.

They work great for my 12-yr old grandson
These are a great starter pedal clip for those that can't use the clipless design. I like how they work well even without need for a strap. They were easy for my grandson to get used to and seem durable, but time will tell. I was disappointed they did not come with any instructions regarding the use of the metal plate adapters that are included. To learn how to use them I had to watch a customer video. As it turns out I did not need them. Also, the supplied screws were not long enough to be able to use for a direct installation on the pedals without using the adapter plate. Additional longer screws would be appreciated.

Here are the dimensions you need
Start of rant:Why can't manufacturers actually give useful details about their products, that waywe are more likely to have the confidence to buy their product knowing that it meets our requirements, leading to more sales, more happy customers, less returns and everybody wins. Why?End of rant.DimensionsHere are the dimensions you actually need to know before buying this item:-Each clip comes with 2 fitting bolts, length of threaded section of bolt: 10mmand 2 nuts with serrated washers. Depth of nut:4mm, depth of hole through clip finishes up at ~2mm(it will compress as you tighten the bolt), leaving you ~4mm to pass through the front plate of your pedal.Gap between fitting holes: 2.5mm but will handle gaps between 2.0 and 3.5mmHeight from the centre of the fitting holes to the footplate of the clip: 10mmWhen fitted the clips extend beyond the front edge of the pedal by 7.2mmMaximmum width of front edge of clip: 78mmWhen fitted on my bike (Gents 19" frame Hybrid) the minimum clearance from the frontof the clip to the the rear of front wheel (mudguard actually) is now 15mm -without the clip the clearance from the front edge of the pedal was originally 80mm.The clips allow me to extend the front edge of my shoe no more than 70mm beyondthe front edge of the pedal.FittingEach clip attaches by means of bolts through two holes in the front plate of your pedal. Not all pedals have these holes - so check yours before you buy. In my case the holes were already used tohouse a reflector which could be easily prised off with a screwdriver to leave them free for fitting the clips.Fitting is simple - you will need a spanner and a screwdriver - just make sure not to fit them upside down.In useThe toe clips are comfortable and suitable for my shoe size (UK:9 EU:43) and I had no problemextracting my feet from them when required. Perhaps those with significantly larger shoe sizemight find them too short??These clips are designed more to prevent your foot accidentally skidding off the pedal rather thanto increase your pedal power significantly: you can use them to pull up on the pedals but they flexnoticeably if you pull hard. Overall however, the increase they provide in pedalling confidence hasmade them a worthwhile buy.I can't comment on durability as they are a new purchase.

Toe clips...a practical view
These do not fit all types of pedal - certainly not the pedals fitted to my Dawes Sonoran, that are cast aluminium with reflective inserts on the front/back faces. There were no fitting instructions, so it wasn't clear what the steel plates (see attached) were for but one could take a guess that they were to provide additional grip. The plates were not shown or referred to in the product description. Assuming my guess about the purpose of the steel plates to be correct, the screws supplied were not long enough.Being a retired engineer adapting the pedals to take the toe clips wasn't too difficult as the necessary tools to measure and drill the pedals were to hand. Because of the form of the pedal casting, it was a bit of a fiddle to get one of the two nuts/pedal started on the screws. As already noted, without the steel plates the screws were only JUST long enough. So, the clips are fitted and we're of to test them. The product description states that the size is generous enough to accept "chunky MTB-style shoes". I don't know much about MTB shoes but I can say that, when wearing trainers, I have to force my toes to the front of the clips. (Note to self - keep toenails well trimmed for cycling in future.)Having said all of the above, I'm sure that these will be a useful addition to my bike set-up.

Too flexible to be any use
They’re far to flexible to provide any kind of stability to the pedal stroke. Without the straps, you really want something more rigid to push and pull into with the toes, but these just feel like a standard toe cage that’s had it’s straps removed. Useless.

Needed some careful work
Seem to be quite durable and are quite comfortable even in mountain bike shoes. The down side was that I had to cut away some of the plastic at the front of the toe clips in order for them not to catch on the front mudguard when I turned the front wheel. I guess it may be because I have a 'small' frame.
