Do you have to print out the image and place it underneath the sheet you are tracing? If not then how do you put the image to trace on the screen? Thx

Yes you need an image ideally single sided though magazine pages with a good clear image work well as long as the back is not too intrusive. The light is bright enough to work with two sheets of 80 / 90 gsm printing paper though tracing paper is better.

Can you advise if i can get a longer usb lead for this product

You could try to using the short lead, plugged in to a portable battery/charger. I use my (phone sized) portable battery, which charges via a usb cable.. and have it plugged in to the Light Box, laying by the side of it ... and it last for around 6-8hrs.
