On Writing Well Hardcover – January 16, 2013

No book has improved my writing as much as this one! It addresses many issues you didn’t realise you had and guides you towards a creative path. Rather than dwelling on punctuation or grammar, this book enlightens the actual craft of writing; how to go about it. Other than an occasional silly attempt at political correctness of his day (so called sexism and so on), this book is filled with great insights.

Everyone should own this book and read it at least once every year.

William Zinsser's "On Writing Well," which first hit the market some 40 years ago, is a classic in the field. A worthwhile book for any writer or aspiring writer, its advice is most helpful to those who are starting their careers or avocations in writing. Among its topics are simplicity, clutter, style, audience, the lead, the ending, the interview, professional and business writing, humor, and sports. With such a broad range of topics, it's not surprising that none of them are covered in depth. But this is not the purpose of "On Writing Well." Rather, the purpose is to provide an overview of nonfiction writing as a whole. It does a great job of this, as witnessed by its staying power over the years.

There are many books out there this is the foundational one for non-fiction writing just go for it. Its the best for writing non fiction books and blogs

My absolute favourite for writing non-fiction well. Most style guides are hard yakka. The difference in this book is that it is like a rare master conveying to his beloved students the secrets of writing well. The book itself is a demonstration of well-written text. The advice is understandable, relevant, and immediately helpful for all kinds of non-fiction. I found the book is so delightful that I read it, for pleasure, at the close of the day.

The media could not be loaded. I bought this book on September 2023. I am writing this review on May 2024. Since then, I read this book cover-to-cover twice.I return to several sections of this book almost every week and find something nuanced to take back from it when I get stuck in my writing activities.This book has single-handedly helped in publishing 2 case studies and 1 research article in top quartile Scopus indexed journals in a span of seven months. And I am NOT from academia and have full time day job in the tech industry.If you want to be a published non-fiction writer, this book has the power to create you.

This book teaches how to write good non-fiction. Everyone should read and practice this book, especially those who are passionate about scientific communication, like research scholars.
