Turn the alarm off when I don’t need it.

I cannot turn off the alarm on weekends. The instructions are difficult to understand. If you are supposed to just press the menu button for 3 seconds to turn off the alarms, the numbers flash. To get the numbers to quit flashing, you press the menu button, which turns the alarm back on. Very irritating. Any suggestions? I don’t want my alarm to go off when I don’t need it, and I don’t like the numbers flashing.
