Don't Expect Full-size Performance from a Pocket Cleaning Rod.
Sorry if this review rambles a bit. If you don't want to read War and Peace, here's the "bottom line:" on the whole, I am glad I bought this kit, and I think it is a good value at the price I paid.Now for the "Russian novel."This kit is great for in-the-woods or at-the-range quick barrel clean-ups. But do not expect to be able to thread several cleaning patches through the end; and then to push hard on the handle in opposition to a bunch of friction in the barrel -- and not worry about it failing.The diminutive size of this kit, and the fact that it fits easily into a jacket or hunting vest pocket, means that it would be unreasonable to expect it to perform like a full-sized bench cleaning kit. "What it is, is what it is:" a TINY cleaning kit made of SEVERAL small aluminum shafts that screw together at threaded joints -- and considering that the material used is NOT steel, you get more flex than you want. No surprise there.No surprise either that you also get a tendency for the individual short shafts to screw apart and flex even more. As you use this, probably a good idea to check the tightness of the threaded joints frequently.Still trying to figure out why a swivel-joint was added to the first section of the rod assembly (next to the push handle). Shotguns are NOT rifled -- they're smooth-bores, and the brush, patches, or swab at the end of the cleaning rod do NOT rotate when forced up and down the barrel. So why would you add another point of flexibility/weakness to an already-under-engineered system? Only reasonable answer is that this kit must've been designed for rifled weapons and modified for use in shotguns.I will say that I was POSITIVELY surprised by the fact that the cumulative rod length was sufficient for the 28" barrel of my turkey gun: I expected to have to brush and swab from both the muzzle and breach ends in order to clean the entire barrel. Quite the opposite was true: even considering that my shotgun is a semi-automatic with a long breach fitting extending way into the receiver, the length of this rod assembly was more than sufficient to reach the muzzle.Like I said, a good value for the price paid -- but not a bench cleaning kit by any means.
