This is a nice train set for the price. It comes with enough track to make either a circle or oval. I wanted to review it using the most difficult method, a circle. The train requires 4 AA batteries, not included, to operate. It do3s not require any hard wire so it can be used anywhere. After installing the batteries and adding water to the designated location, I put the cars on the track and let it run. It took one try to get it to run properly. All the cars were running well with no problems. The steam and sound also worked well. It is sold as a Christmas train, and a Santa image is in the engine window, there isn't a thing else. This can easily be used year round. I have been invited to participate in the Amazon Vine program and it is my responsibility to offer an unbiased opinion. I hope you found this review helpful.

This will be a holiday gift, and I am sure it will really delight that youngster. I opened the package very carefully, so I could close it up nicely. The train locomotive and cars are beautifully made and look just like the picture. I think Mom or Dad would have to help a younger child set up the tracks and train (needs batteries inserted). However, the kids will become engrossed putting water into the engine to make steam, stopping and starting the train, changing the track setup, and putting houses and figures around the track. I remember when my kids were young, they really loved setting up and running their trains (and those weren't half as nice as these are).

The media could not be loaded. I’m really excited to to see this train under the tree this year. After inserting 4 AA batteries and setting up the track that connects so easily a child could do it, all you had to do was make sure the engine was seated properly on the track and the cars were all connected. It does have an on off switch on one side and the option to turn the sound and music off on the other, which is good because, it’s not the most pleasing sound to hear over and over again. As an oval there is 30 inch diameter so I know my tree skirt which is metal will fit in there comfortably. It also includes some extra wheels and connectors because if kids are playing with this, I suppose those parts could break over time. While the smoke function is very cool, the reservoir isn’t very big and I can’t imagine that the smoke would last very long, but that will also be something to occupy the children and keep them playing with it. And unlike other “toys” on the market, this looks pretty polished in its design. It feels like it will fit with your decor rather than just being a toy. I’m very pleased.

This is a good value train set, especially for the price. Of course, you should adjust your expectations accordingly, this is not a high end collectible item, it is a fun toy meant to be used for fun by a little one. I will update this review if I find any issues after usage.

The Locomotive is about 8 to 9 inches long and is very attractive, just as depicted in the photos, black with gold trim and made of semi flexible strong plastic materials!!! The train pieces are all put together and ready to go once you click all the track piece together!!! You do need a Phillips head screwdriver to take out one small screw in order to put four AA batteries into the battery pack on the bottom of the tail end of the locomotive, and then it is Very easy to use and make "Steam" come out of the Engine 'pipe' (by just pouring in a small amount of water) and then it also makes a cute locomotive sound if you want it to!! It comes nicely boxed for gifting and what is really great is that all the pieces easily go Back into the box for storage, it is not difficult the pack it back up again and easily close it completely year after year!!! Really amazing low price compared to other toys of this quality size and Total cool-ness, tell the child to be prepared to share with the grown ups in the room that will want to play with his train set with him!!! Very good gift for a fair price!!! Thank you!!!

For a plastic train that takes 4 AA batteries it's pretty nice. The engine has 2 switches. One for running and the other for smoke. The track went together easy. This is a quick setup under the tree. Even when your kid graduates to more expensive trains, you might still set this under the tree.

I can't wait to put the tree up and put this together with my boys and watch them have fun with it this Christmas. i had to unbox it to check the pieces and ensure it works. It works well and very easy to assemble. It seems like decent quality so I hope it lasts us for many years. I like the realistic features like the locomotive sound and steam, thankfully you can turn off the sound because I know as much as I like it now kids have a way of making things annoying, LOL. So far so good and we are excited to have it!
