Well, you should have it professional cleaned and any stains removed first. But the actual pieces you need is an acid free box and tissue paper to prevent yellowing. This box comes with both. The box itself is mostly fabric with a stiff, fabric-covered bottom that helps hold the stiff, fabric-covered sides up. You wrap your cleaned dress and veil in the included tissue paper and fold them carefully into the box. Then zip the cloth lid shut. Unfortunately, the lid is not stiff, it’s simply a fabric top.I was pleased by the box. My wedding dress and veil fit in it handily, although I did not have a dress with a wide, full, or layered skirt. It did have a bit of a train and the veil reached the floor. So, there is a lot of tulle. The box is a bit wide for the shelves in my closet, so finding a place where it won’t be crushed wasn’t easy, but otherwise I was quite happy with it.

I've bought several preservation kits in the past, and I'm also a genealogist so I've worked with old documents. While not quite the same thing, the principles are very similar. This being said, this wasn't an impressive kit. The box itself is very flimsy. It's basically like those cloth-like baskets that slide in and out of the cube storage at Target. You slide in a piece of lined cardboard to firm up the bottom, and then it zips on three sides. Here is my problem, it's easily crushed. If you're storing your treasures in the top of a closet, sure, this kind of box is fine; but I have to store it under a bed or in the back of my closet on the floor. I live in an older house and none of these boxes fit in the top of my closets. Anything, even fabric, should not be crushed. Also, this types of fabric lining will be a magnet for dust. Secondly, the size is an issue. I ordered this kit for my aunts prom dress from the early 50's. It has a layered skirt but no crinoline so the dress isn't as full as it would have been. It's wrapped just as it always has been in my grandmother's night robe (yes, I removed the hanger). After folding it properly into the box, the box was full. I can't imagine getting a wedding dress in it. My wedding dress is in a much bigger cardboard preservation box, wrapped in preservation vinyl and stored in a second cardboard box under my bed. After 25 years...doing what it's suppose to do, the out box is well worn. There's no way this kit would last like that. For the short term, maybe, but definitely not long term...and isn't that the point?

This came with everything you would need for storage even for the poofiest of dresses. It isn’t a hard sided storage so you don’t want to put anything on top of it. It zips up and has the paper to keep the dress from yellowing. Highly recommend rather than keeping them hanging in your closet.
