Makes a bitter tonic. Tastes so horrible but is good for your health 🫖
Kutki is a traditional Ayurvedic herb that has been used for centuries to treat a variety of ailments. This 100gr weight package of Organic Spree Kutki Herb is manufactured in India and is perfect for those looking to incorporate the ancient healing power of Ayurveda into their daily routine. Kutki - scientifically known as Picrorhiza kurroa - is a perennial herb from the family Scrophulariaceae that grows up to 10 cm high. Its roots are elongated and 5-10 cm in length, with a bitter taste. The name Picorrhiza comes from the Greek word ‘Picroz’ which means ‘bitter’ and ‘rhiza’ meaning ‘root’, referring to the bitter taste of the herb. Also, Kutki (or KATUKI in Ayurveda) is derived from the word katu. The literal meaning of this term is pungency with bitterness. I rinsed it according to the instructions on the packet. I powdered it using my mortar and pestle then dried it out under direct sunlight. Once the herbs were dried I placed 3 teaspoons (15ml) of the powdered root into a teapot and poured boiling water over it, left it to steep for a good 10 minutes and tasted it.... Goodness me! The bitterness is something else! Not disgusting and the smell is pleasant and herbal so I identified it as a necessary sacrifice for its potential benefits and downed a whole cup. No sugar or honey. Straight. It leaves a fresh and pure aftertaste. All I can say is, it's an acquired taste - I happen to like it now. It makes an amber coloured tisane/infusion. It is a completely natural and organic product - doesn't contain any chemicals. It's working well for me. I did have to adjust the quantity as 15ml is very laxative. Try it... It tastes so horrible but is good for health.

Hidden costs—comes as hard roots, not powder
I bought this expecting a ready-to-use herb, but it arrived as whole, dried pieces of Picrorhiza Kurroa. To actually use this, I now have to spend an additional £20 on a high-quality grinder. This makes the total cost nearly double what I originally paid. If you don't already own a heavy-duty herb grinder, be prepared for the extra expense and effort!!

Lots of benifit for health bitter but good
Organic Spree Kutki Herb offers a pure and natural source of Picrorhiza Kurroa, also known as Katuka Rohini, in a convenient 100-gram package. This traditional Ayurvedic herb is believed to support liver health and aid digestion, making it an intriguing option for those interested in natural supplements. While its strong, bitter taste may be challenging for some users, the product's organic certification and convenient size make it accessible for those looking to incorporate Kutki into their wellness routine. However, as with any herbal supplement, effects can vary between individuals, and it's wise to consult a healthcare professional before use, especially given the limited scientific research on its long-term benefits.

This bag of kutki herb is somewhat on the expensive side compared to other options on Amazon. At time of review, this bag costs $63.08 / 100 grams which is expensive for anything. It wasn't too hard to find a kutki herb, albeit a powder at a cost of $16.65 / 100 grams which is much more favorable, and another for $44.58 / 100 grams. It always pays to shop around and so you may want to do that in this case, but still, I'm reasonably sure that if you're looking for kutki, this stuff will work for you.

The tea is made from the root of the plant. After reading the instructions, I saw you need to grind the root after washing it. We didn't have an actual normal sized mortar and pestle but had a tiny one really meant to make garlic paste or grind up pills for those who can't swallow them....that worked to at least break it down a small quantity at a time. I'm going to be 100% honest the root alone out of the bag smells really intense and earthy. After grinding and washing the root and before infusing it in the water, the only way I can best describe the smell is a bit like cigarette and wet dirt. The taste of this tea is STRONG. They are not joking with the warning that it can upset your belly. I tried to mask the strong flavor with manuka honey but to no avail since the honey just trapped the flavor and made it just passable but as soon as the honey hit the back of my tongue, the root flavor came out. I can tell you with my personal experience that it does help with digestion but it is really hard to drink. No only the flavor but the smell of it is STRONG. Don't get this looking for pleasure, you won't find any. If you're looking to take this medicinally, I say, GO FOR IT!! I've seen it has soo many benefits, but read these reviews so that you're prepared !

This a high quality kutki herb in an uncut format for making herbal tea. Although it is recommend to wash before processing, I found this herbs are very clean. There is nothing to wash off. There are many rhizomes and roots in a resealable bag, with a strong spicy smell. Since they are very hard, if you don’t want to use a grinder, you can soak a piece for a few hours to soften and cut into small pieces. It is easy to steepen with boiling water, but be prepared for a pungent taste. The tea has a light brown color with a strong bitter taste. I have to add some sweetener to neutralize before drinking this herb tea. This herb is famous for being an Ayurvedic medicine with antioxidants and other ingredients. The key chemicals are picrosides with many benefits. It might help us in anti-inflammation, promote bile flow and digestion. It seems tome that the best way to enjoy the benefits of this product is to use a lower amount or add a sweetener.
