For the love of dogs
Some great stories of dogs & their owners. Some happy, some sad. As having watched All creatures great & small over the years, couldn't resist this book. When reading about an unwell dog it makes me think of my two Labradors, how I love them, how I'd feel if they were ill. A must for all dog lovers.

Truly exceptional !
Herriot is a truly exceptional author, and in my opinion every animal lover in Britain should read his works. This is another wonderful collection of stories, this time every chapter featuring dogs. Some are laugh-out-loud amusing, others bring tears to your eyes, but all are can't-put-down readable. My only criticism of this particular book is that most of the tales have been taken from his other books, so if you already own his complete collection, you might not want to invest in these duplicates. Having said that, there are one or two additional stories, and he does add a page or two at the end of every chapter telling you a little bit more about the characters. I personally own every book he's ever written, both in paperback and Kindle form, and I wasn't going to miss out on this one - and I'm very glad I didn't. Even if the stories are duplicates, they're well-worth a second read. And if you're lucky enough not to have read any Herriot stories yet, why not make this your first - you'll find yourself well and truly addicted!

It's by James Herriot. What more do you need to know?
Read all of Herriot's books of his life as a vet in the Yorkshire sales many times. They still make me laugh out loud. Can't recommend this author enough.

It kept me interested
I am not a big reader in fact the number of books that I have reached the end is we shall say is few. I was soon turning the pages with this one- my wife sent for it to keep me occupied while I had a few spare moments on holiday. I usually fall asleep and drop the book but this one is different- you seem to get involved,, The short stories make my sort of reading relatively easy and enjoyable...

A must-read for dog lovers!
These are a collection of stories about dogs whom James Herriot encountered on his rounds as a vet. He writes very well, and brings all his characters to life - man and animal. I found it perfect bedtime reading, a story or two and I was comfy and comforted by the dogs and Herriot's love of them, and had a wee laugh too.
