Does the job, sensor is a little too sensitive.
Effective but super sensitive. I can’t decide between 4 or 5 stars, but in the end, this thing works really well for keeping my cat away from my plants. We had issues with him digging in the dirt, chewing on the leaves, and once killed a plant from peeing in the dirt… Something had to be done, so I thought I would try this, and it works amazingly. HOWEVER, the motion sensor is super sensitive. They show pictures of this on a counter, but just walking by the thing will set it off. I wish it was a little less sensitive. I solved this problem by pointing the sensor towards my plants so that the cat will need to walk between the sprayer and the plant to set it off. This works great, and checking around online, the spray does not harm the plants, and the couple of times it has gone off, I’d agree the plants seem just fine. Just make sure to turn it off with the button if you plan to do anything around your plants, like pruning or watering. Unfortunately, the can only has so many sprays until you need to buy a new one, so keep that in mind when working on them. I also found that the motor that pushes down the sprayer is pretty loud; the sound alone scares my cat, so if this can runs out, I may just leave it and see if the sound alone will deter him. So far, he has only found out the hard way once and has seemed to learn his lesson quickly, so the only reason I see needing to replace the can is when my daughter keeps setting it off when she goes by the plant.

Returning it is impossible!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS!!
We had one of these years ago and it worked flawlessly. Ordered this newer style one recently to help one of our cats from peeing in an area it shouldn't pee in. This thing just won't work. I've replaced the batteries twice, thinking it may be the batteries but that's not the case. No matter what setting I try, it doesn't work as it claims. It'll go off when no one is around it, yet our cat can walk right up to it, sniff it, and it won't even detect the motion and alert the cat. This thing is garbage as listed in other reviews. Amazon directs you to the manufacturer to return it or contact the company's support department, but that is a joke. This item isn't even listed on the company's website to get support for and you can't advance with your support request until you select the item you're needing support with. What a waste of money. I wish we wouldn't have gotten rid of our old one from years ago. It worked incredibly well.. this newer model is just junk. Another dissatisfied customer that's out $50+ bucks because I can't return it. Such a scam.. I'm surprised Amazon deflects these complaints and return requests onto the manufacturer with no help from them at all. All I did was waste time going down a rabbit hole on the manufacturer's website that does not help at all because this item is not even listed. So now I'm not only out the money, but I'm really pissed off. Don't waste your money on this folks!

Keeps cat away from door
We’ve been using this for a week to keep our cat from throwing herself at our door at night when we sleep (I am a very light sleeper and she would keep me awake when we let her sleep with us). I placed the sprayer in the corner by the door so if she passes by it to bang on the door it will spray. So far it has worked well, and is better than some of the other sprayers I found on amazon. The plastic housing for the spray is much better and it was very self explanatory to set up and turn on. We don’t move it around very much and haven’t had any issues with the sprayer going off when no one is around - it just works as expected to keep the cat away from our door.

Effective but doesn't last too long
Works well to shoo cat away but also prone to human triggering which wastes sprays. It's not easy to place where you don't also move past it. The tin doesn't last 120 sprays as advertised - probably half that.

Works less than half the time
SECOND UPDATE: In some sort of cruel twist of irony the product failed to spray and stop the cat from scratching at our door at 5:00am a mere hours after I bought refills. So just know this… it very often doesn’t work. How reliable it is really depends on how wary or bold your cat is, because sometimes it will be triggered and sometimes it won’t. Personally, I think they priced this to take advantage of people’s desperation because very little will deter a cat, so if people have no other solutions they will settle for something that only sort of works. I think it’s also important to add that this product IS set up so the cat walks by it, not up to it. There are also no heat sources nearby to confuse the sensor. The device has new batteries as of half way through the first can and now that same can is about 1/4 full a few weeks since purchase. The cat can literally be 4-10 inches from it when scratching at our door and this can go on indefinitely with no spray. Then I open the door to shoo him away and I trigger it (sometimes, other times I can wave my hand in front of it and nothing happens so I turn it off and on again which seems to make it easier to trigger again). This helps remind him that it does work sometimes and he backs off. But then he knows we’re up and starts meowing incessantly. Now there’s no getting back to sleep. I’m defeated, and grumpily fulfill his wish to have company, because in a battle of wills the cat always wins. UPDATE: So far it’s working just enough to deter the cat most of the time just because he’s not sure if it’s going to go off or not, so he creeps up and sits and stares at it in the morning. It also goes off completely randomly with no movement or heat source, especially shortly after it is turned on. *shrug* For now I’m sticking with it, even though there’s a price fix on the refills so there isn’t even a discount in bulk, which really bugs me and doesn’t make me want to buy other products from this company. The refills really shouldn’t be more than $10 and the device with the first bottle shouldn’t be more than $35, especially if the thing is going off with nothing triggering it. But sleep is that valuable so… yeah. ORIGINAL POST I’m on the verge of returning it. We got it to deter our cat from pawing at the base of our door and ripping up the carpet early in the morning. I followed the instructions about positioning where he walks by and it seems like once it’s been on for several hours it just doesn’t work. I hear him pawing, get up, and wave my hand in front of the thing, watch him pass right by it…. Nothing. Batteries were tested prior to use. We’re probably only 1/4 of the way through the first can estimating it’s sprayed maybe 20 times total so far (several of which were us accidentally walking in front of it). So I turn it off and on again, wave my hand in front of it and it sprays, at least that once. When or how often it will actually work is anyone’s guess but it’s not often enough to deter the cat, and he’s still woken us up most mornings with no sound of a spray whatsoever. Will another unit work better? No idea. I’m going to try fresh batteries just in case it gets less sensitive as they get used. If that doesn’t work this is going back. The product is obviously faulty based on the many reviews like mine making the price point unjustifiable in my opinion. We were desperate so I gave it a go anyway, and if I can get it to work just enough of the time so it actually deters him a majority of nights, I might keep it, but only because I have no other options.

It is so sensitive that it keeps spraying with no motion around it. Do not waste money

It works to repel cats but it is only appropriate for guarding a specific approach where you need to stop the cat but you won’t be crossing the same space yourself. Given how expensive the refills (and the units) are you don’t want the spray activating all the time.

It doesn’t work in my cat… only on me. I put it by the place i don’t want her to be but it doesn’t sensor her movement so it doesnt spry when she goes then when i go to check it spry me instead 💩 also its stoped working after a while even after i changed the battery, for the price its the worst thing i ever bought
