Transcendentalism
This free edition is a great help but does not include notes or critical introduction. It is nicely formatted but, for some reason, to find the contents page you need to go to the beginning and turn the pages - it doesn't come up on the Kindle menu. From the point of view of a modern reader, I find the text itself effusive, very wordy and only occasionally interesting. Emerson's basic enthusiasm for life, the universe and everything gives it a certain energy but, for me, this is negated by the obsessive rapturousness of his style. I think this quote conveys the overall tone:Standing on the bare ground, - my head bathed by the blithe air, and uplifted into infinite space, - all mean egotism vanishes. I become a transparent eye-ball; I am nothing; I see all; the currents of the Universal Being circulate through me; I am part or particle of God.

Harmonising with nature
I really enjoyed the book, it brought nature more to my attention in a sense in it's spiritual awareness. We are as one with nature as we are with each other. There are some stunning lines in this book that help you remember there is beauty in the natural world around on any scale
