This is the same as the MX Master not the MX Master2. The basic difference is the MX Master2 has a higher DPI and longer battery life. Overall a good mouse for most things. Avid gamer's might want the higher DPI and on mine battery has been charged once since xmas and is still going strong. so why pay extra for longer battery life. Personally I find the MX fine over the MX2 but its a personal choice.

What's the difference between the regular and the AMZ models?

This is the older model. The latest model is the MX Master 2S. You can see the diffrerence as the old ones have "Logitech" stamped on them and new ones "Logi". The difference between the two is on the newer model the sensor has been upgraded from 1,000 DPI to 4,000, resulting in a faster and smoother tracking experience, and battery life has been nearly doubled from 40 days up to 70.

What does "AMZ" mean exactly?

It means “for Amazon”, differently boxed as far as I can see. I bought the AMZ and it has the bottom shape of the Mx2 without the button to connect, just connects automatically. Hope this helps

Does it side scroll on an excel worksheet?

Yes, the side scroll wheel on the left of the mouse side scrolls on all webpages and applications including Excel spreadsheets.
