Q: What is different with TS 4000 ?

The 8000 has an adjustable flame. The 4000 has a fixed flame for HIGH. I mostly use the 8000 on high, but it is sometimes nice to be able to dial it back to a small, gentle flame. I’d get the 8000 unless $20 extra matters.

Q: Any idea how long a burn you'd get with a single tank?

depends on what you are burning, I melt gold on maybe a quarter tank for say ten minutes, so basicly you have to know your metal and how to work it. other metals take less time because the intense heat is not required as gold melts at 1100 to 1200c.

Q: does this tourch have a 2 stage switch? meaning can you press down partially to let the gas flow and then all the way down to get the spark.

It does. And so you know, it's called a momentary switch.

Q: Can i melt metal with this? And if not, could you point me to a torch that could?

you need a fuel oxygen kit ie, oxy acetylene to do that, and they cost A LOT more money than this, plus the rental of the cylinders. melting metal isnt really a good description as it depends on what type of metal, the dimensions of it and a bunch of other factors. you will be able to soften metal to bend it to shape, you can braze or solder and you can free off rusted bolts with this, anything else requires real heat. i have one of these http://www.amazon.com/Professional-Portable-Acetylene-Welding-Victor-Style/dp/B00K326MG6/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1407378726&sr=8-3&keywords=oxyacetylene+kit in the van, the cylinders come empty you have to exchange them at a welding supply store and pay a fee. this will cut, melt, heat, bend, braze, solder pretty much anything on cars, trucks and farm equipment. the tanks do tend to empty pretty quickly, so buy a second pair at the welding store as they always run out at the worst time.

Genuine Bernzomatic, Not Chinese Fake.

This is the real thing. I was seduced into buying cheaper, and although they said they were genuine they were not. They leaked the gas and were shodily made in China. This torch is really great. No need to disconnect from the bottle as there are no leaks and it is superbly made.

Amazing. Will recommend!

Great tool!I use it to ligh up smoking pelets (in a tube) for smoking cheese. Maybe a bit of an overkill, but I love this torch! Solid and sturdy, as expected.PS: Looking forward to make some creme brulee, but also to solder some pipes 😀

NEARLY WHAT I WANTED

I have already reviewed this but it has not shown up on the site:Item bought via Amazon from USA. It arrived very quickly and has been used. It feels sturdy and well built. Overall it works well but, I wanted it to use in confined areas, which meant turning it upside down. It did not work fully upside down, as stated in blurb, but kept flaming out. I might have to buy a hose and bottle to stop this. Also, as expected, it has a USA thread fitting which therefore needs an EU adaptor which is easy to get, (CGA600 thread to EU 7/16" thread).
