After suffering with lower back pain for some time, I thought it would be good to give this a go along side inflammatory medical pain control.You get the main fabric backstrap, that has a compartment on the inner side for you to place one of the two gel packs in to receive either hot or cold topical pain relief.You put a gel pack either in the microwave to heat it up. The instructions say not to overheat as it will affect the gel pack. However, the 20 seconds it says to heat for in my microwave power rating, is nowhere nearly enough, as the pack was still stone cold. I ended up warming up for approximately 2 minutes in all, which then was providing sufficient heat to perform well. Alternatively, you can place one of the packs in the freezer for roughly 1 hour to be cold enough to act as a freeze/ice pack.I was a little sceptical on whether this would work, as I wasn't sure how deep the heat or cold would penetrate to get to the source of pain. However, whilst it doesn't completely eradicate my lower back pain, it does alleviate a lot of the symptoms and if using medical pain relief in conjunction, it provide good results. I do think that it also depends on how acute the pain you are experiencing is, but it does help provide some soothing to ease things up.Overall, the heat application worked better for me, but I think that this is going to be very much depending on the type of pain and user preference. The instructions say to use it either hot or cold for no more than 20 mins at a time. You can then remove, and reapply again after a short period of rest, so not to get any burns/skin damage etc.All in all, it is not the best solution but equally is not the worst thing I have used in my time. For me it works best either in the evening when you're relaxing or a point in the day when you have time to sit and let the backstrap work.I would recommend on the basis that it does help provide relief and on the basis that it it compliments rather than solves pain issues. Good value and price and the belt is comfortable to wear and adjustable to fit a large proportion of different body-frame sizes.

This gel pack can be used hot or cold, depending on your needs. We tend to use it hot and heat it up in the microwave, it takes a couple of minutes for ours to get it to the right temperature. It holds its heat for a good while, I would say 2.5 hours before it’s gone cool. We find it great on aches and strains. I think this is a good value gel pack. It also comes with a handy holder with strap which can be tied round the waist or shoulder to help keep the gel pack in place.
