Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Great for adult beginners - I've been playing for around a month and have found this book to be excellent. A problem with a lot of tutorial books for beginners is the tunes you learn are often things like 'Old MacDonald', which may be OK for children but as an adult it's pretty uninspiring. This book has very playable versions of classic piano pieces that you'll actually want to learn. They are clearly set out and all show suggested fingering, which I find particularly helpful as a beginner. Of course they are significantly simplified, but still easily recognisable, and a lot more satisfying to play than nursery rhymes! The pieces are also available in mp3 on the Dover website, and for me these are an object lesson to other publishers - it's not some stylised backing track or a version that sounds like it's being played on a stylophone, it's just someone accurately playing the piece, on a piano, so you know exactly what it should sound like. The only slight negative is it's not spiral bound, but that's not enough to deduct a star from what is an excellent book. Review: Easy to understand - The book is useful for children who have begun to learn piano and have some experience from lessons over a period of time.

Excellent, varied collection, well set out and user-friendly
I acquired a keyboard last year after a break of over 30 years from playing the piano - so I needed some easy but 'meaningful' music to play. This is a great collection - lots of familiar and (to me) less familiar classical tunes - a good range, with some easier than others - and it is well set out in fairly large print, with the composers in alphabetical order - and I'm really enjoying using it. The notes, sometimes humorous, about the composers and their music above each piece are interesting and a nice touch too. I thoroughly recommend this book, but having had it a year I was starting to find it mostly quite easy (so after a bit of research I bought a rather more challenging book, also from Amazon - and it is one that I would also recommend: Classic FM-Smooth Classics for Solo Piano). However I still really enjoy using this Beginners' book of Piano Classics whenever I feel a need for a more relaxed session.

Not sure how long binding will hold together as it is glue and you have to squish it to get at the notes. Content is excellent though. I can plod through many of the pieces at my pre-grade one piano level and it is quite satisfying to play things which sound musical rather than more kids pieces or exercises. However, I do already read music well so those for whom piano is a first instrument may find this harder. Certainly excellent site reading practice.

Classical for beginners
This book is great for the beginner who wants to hear themselves play something other than mary had a little lamb. Therefore I find it especially appealing as an adult piano student. Instantly gratifying easy pieces to impress you and your friends. Even if you are not sure of the titles, you probably have heard them before. Just go to YouTube and find the piece, give it a listen and then you will know how to begin easily with the tune in mind. Fabulous. I hope I can learn the full scores some day, this book is very encouraging.

All-in-all, brilliant book, melodic pieces, loved by my pupils and by myself!
Brilliant book. I use this when teaching pupils from scratch. It's great because the structure of the pieces help highlight various theoretical concepts (e.g. chords, arpeggios, dynamics, different octaves, keys or time signatures). It provides a variety of the classics and the younger children love being able to play common tunes. Older children and young adults also love to play the tunes, and are able to work on new pieces in between lessons to improve their sight-reading. For the older beginners, I tend to use the pieces in the lesson just for practical theory, whilst working on more advanced structural works of Clementi, Mozart or Haydn. All-in-all, brilliant book, melodic pieces, loved by my pupils and by myself!

Good selection but VERY basic
This book has a reasonable range of very short, very simple pieces for the keyboard/piano beginner. Most are around Grade 2 level. Some of the pieces have suffered from the adaptation and simplification but there are enough that are playable and still resemble the original piece to make it worth purchasing the book. If the player is Grade 3 or above, these may be too simple.

Good for beginners who want to learn a simplified version of Piano Classics
Some of the pieces are a bit short otherwise this is a good book if you are interested in playing Piano classics. The Authors have made these pieces more approachable so should suit a piano player who has been playing for about a year and has therefore covered the basics such as reading music and able to find notes on the piano with some ease. All the pieces can be downloaded as MP3 files so you can listen to them and hear how they should sound which is great.

J'ai joué pendant quelques années quand j'étais petite et je viens de redémarrer le piano, 20 ans plus tard. J'ai trouvé des morceaux très motivants dans ce livre, qui donnent envie d'étudier, même seule.

Great book with easy versions of classic melodies.

This is most definately NOT for beginners. Most of the pieces are technically very challenging, requiring at least an intermediate skill level. Even my teacher has trouble with many of these...

This book is an excellent choice to use along with a beginner 1 level piano student. They have have a selection of actual songs they can play and it will encourage them to continue their piano learning and to practice. The book has excellent selections for the beginner student. It's good to use a book such as this with your beginner student to encourage them with music other than the somewhat simple songs given in their study materials. I highly recommend this book to be used with other piano study materials. I like this book a lot.

This book was my choice mainly due to all the positive reviews. I don't regret my choice at all, on the contrary. I have recommended this beginner's book to some of my friends who considered learning to play the piano. The teaching method is easy to follow, clear and consistent and progress is almost guaranteed (if one practices accordingly). One year ago I was an absolute beginner! And although progress is slow (I am now 60) I enjoy playing and I have the incentive to continue. This book also helps in understanding basic music theory. Particularly helpful is the practical binding, large print and understandable texts. The only downside is the missing CD. This purchase on the amazon website obviously didn't include the CD. This means I cannot hear the "proper" way tunes aught to be played, or the correct tempi of the pieces. Other than this, though, I do not regret having purchased this book.
