Excellent book going straight to the point of video game development.
The book contains a lot of useful information about video game development without bothering you with useless talking. Furthermore, the author is full of humor making his books really easy and entertaining to read. Highly recommended!

Essential reading for anyone interested in developing video games!
I was pleasantly suprised at how accessible and informative this book is. Scott Rogers explains every topic using clear, consice and rather humourous methods which means you're never left scratching your head over the included topics. The topics covered within the book are indeed everything you need to know about desigining and developing games across any platform imaginable. Also this updated 2nd editon covers many of the newer fads and trends in modern games such as mobile apps and digital downloads. This will remain an integral part of my library and close at hand whilst developing games in future.

A good but slightly unpolished guide going over the basics of game design
I got this book looking to get better at game design. I have a background in programming and wanted to try my hand at solo game development. I'm around half-way through it at this point, so keep that in mind. Looking at it objectively, the book covers the game design workflow in detail, explaining basics as well as professional tools and practices. The frequent illustration makes for some added detail and charm, while simultaneously breaking up some lengthy explanations. The author clearly has lots of experience working on games with a team, and they'll often bring up first hand experience as an example. This makes the whole thing more credible. I've learned quite a bit in so far, and I'm certain I'll get to learn much more before I finish the book. That said, I have to add that the book feels a little rushed and unpolished. There's the occasional reference to other parts of a game development team that feel a little second hand or hearsay. While not part of the expertise for the book's topic, still a little off-putting. There are also a number of missing words or odd sentences here and there which really reduce the credibility of the author, especially since they reinforce the importance of attention to detail. It's nothing major, but it might be detrimental to some people's experience. Overall, a great little book that provides plenty of knowledge and some first hand experience about designing games which, while maybe a little unpolished in places, is a good start for anyone looking to give game design a go.

Inspiring
I rated this book five stars because it is inspiring and gives real information I can use in my own video games designs. The book is a pleasure to read and it is presented in a motivating way like a game.

A fantastic 2nd edition! I love this book, its incredibly accessible to anyone (beginners / game designers) that wish to learn or refresh their knowledge in video games design. Highly recommend!

Great manual for budding designers
This book has everything I need in it, really clearly explained with excellent examples. It's very easy to read, very hard to put down! Recommended to all budding games designers

La mejor guía para llevarte a tu sueño.
Tanto si eres un profesional del diseño de videojuegos, como si eres un entusiasta, o un amateur que tiene ganas de experimentar con el arte de crear videojuegos desde el principio, ESTE es tu libro. Es una guía para llevarte en la dirección correcta. Marca algunas pautas a seguir, pero no es un libro muy técnico. Enseña la esencia para llevarte a desarrollar cualquier videojuego. Señala el camino. Y además es entretenidísimo. Por supuesto hay que saber inglés. Pero es un MUST HAVE en toda regla. Todos los diseñadores deben tenerlo en la estantería y consultarlo. Es asequible y cercano. No puedo decir nada más de este libro, sólo una cosa: Si quieres desarrollar y quieres aprender, no lo dudes ni un instante. No te arrepentirás para nada.

Referência incrível. Indispensável para quem quer seguir na área
Level Up!, do Scott Rogers, é simplesmente incrível. O autor realmente te passa as noções da indústria, e é possível perceber que isto está vindo de quem realmente entende do que está falando e é da área há muito tempo. Não é a toa que o livro é usado como uma das principais referências em diversos cursos ligados ao desenvolvimento/design de jogos.

Un manuel vraiment excellent
Ce livre est une merveille absolue. Il est écris par un vrai professionnel du métier et avec un grand sens de l'humour, ça qui fait le manuel un plaisir à lire. Le manuel est très complet, il couvre tous les aspects de la conception et planification des jeux de vidéo de principe à fin et donne des exemples pratiques pour bien expliquer tous les concepts. Je recommande vivement ce livre.
