Rubi

I was rivited to the screen when I watched Rubi as a telenovela, but missed numerous episodes. When the last one was to be shown, my cable service went out and I called customer service and explained that it was the last episode of Rubi, and the rep totally understood and had it fixed by 8 p.m. My friends also whispered that they were hooked. So I jumped at the opportunity to order this DVD set. Unfortunatley, it came in a sealed package missing the first disk! So I didn't see the early episodes and am still at a loss as to how the plot was set up. Nevertheless, Rubi is the Mexican telenovela at its finest. It has all the elements: hot, evil, manipulative beauties (Rubi); sweet, suffering, pious pretty virgins (Maribel); guys easily led by the you-know-whats by hot women (Alejandro); and handsome but sleazy business "socios." You can't keep your eyes off Barbara Mora. She is amazing in this.

I previously reviewed this but my review got dropped somehow. I want to vote again to give it top stars partly because it is one of the very best novelas out there. Low scores reflect gripes about the editing. But, I mean, really, 3 full discos is enough already. The series is a remake of an older Rubi. The plot is as unbelievable as you could want. The acting is fun, earnest, with lots of really bad stuff from Rubi--played by Barbara Mori who is obviously having a blast. Bracamontes is perfect as the good one. The males leads are...well, I have forgotten them all. Mori and Bracamontes were so appealing that I have watched several other of their later works--all good but none better than this, the perfect vehicle for both.

Rubi has looks men admire and women envy. Her ambitions are high, but dangerous. She will use her beauty and cunning desire to get whatever she wants. There is of course Alejandro who is the love of her life, but even he is pushed aside as she aims for her dreams of grandeur. Will she ever come to her sense or keep pushing until she falls over? Barbara Mori excels as Rubi and really brings her to life. She makes you hate her and want her at once. The supporting cast too is excellent, but Rubi is the star just like she would like it. One of the better telenovelas recently made, you will be hooked by the first episode. Great stuff!

this will be a classic DVD because this story is one of the very best. I would say all the love to know world of Spanish operas., above all, it was very interesting watching this DVD.

Missing most of the episodes which means it doesn’t flow or make sense. Wish you could find the entire show somewhere with an English translation at the bottom. I returned it for a refund.

Rubi was very interesting. I really liked Eduardo Santamarina , who played the Dr. Aleandro. He is an excellent actor. Everyone in the novela was good, however , Barbara Mori is not a great actress. Her character is never really developed , other than she's a gold digger. I felt let down at the end, she deserved something really bad for all the things she did. It's not a good ending. But her character is so evil , sh's so bad, it's sort of funny. But I really love the scene near the finale, when Aleandro tells Rubi he's in love with Maribel, and tells Rubi he's never going back to her ever. Rubi was overall very enjoyable for me . I really love Yadhira Carillo, she was awesome!

Loved it, good story, good acting. If I have one criticism it's that the editing is very jumpy, they are trying to condense a year long telenovela into a few discs

I watched it on TV, and had to buy it to watch over and over... and over... They also show a scene from the original movie (black & white) in the "extra features" section, which I like to replay as well.

Das ist genau auch mein Gedanke. Rubi hatte ich bis 2010 auf Sky gesehen. Da war es um mich geschehen. Natürlich sind die beiden gegensätzlichen Frauen und Freundinnen und ihre Charaktäre bezaubernd. Liebe, Intrigen und Missverständnisse prägen diese Serie. Ich bin sehr froh sogar die Spanisch/italienische Pressung auf vier DVDs zu bekommen. 700 minuten sind ein guter Querschnitt der über 115 Folgen.

Nosotros lo compramos sabiéndolo en vista de que no encontramos nada más completo en el mercado, pero es importante reseñar que se trata de un resumen de la serie. No es la serie completa.
