No it comes in a box and is shipped. It just looks like it's breathing.

Is there a button to push for the breathing to begin or an on/off switch? Timer?

There should be a red tab at the bottom of perfect pets. Pull the tab off of perfect pet and that will get the action going. To turn off, there really is no switch to turn off. We try and make the perfect pets look realistic without it but if you are tired of it snoring all day long, take the batteries out. The batteries should make the breathing last for about 3 years.
