Does this tell the right time, though, as in although it's going backwards the time is still correct? (I want to be amused, not frustrated!)

Yes, it tells the correct time as long as you look at the numbers properly or see the reflection in a mirror. This would be ideal in a barbers / hair-dressers on the back wall, so you could see the right time but it's a really good, fun thing in our house just hung on the wall 🙂

I don't know. Got mine three years and three months ago and it's still keeping good time, especially so for the price.
