Just arrived in what I thought was a rather large package but all was explained when I found the thermometer was 12" long. The size of packaging used means it won't go through the letter box.As stated, it's stainless steel. The thermometer part is glass so it needs to be in the pan from the start to avoid thermal shock. Also, don't rinse under cold water till it has cooled. There's a sliding clip at the back to fasten it to the sides of the pan you are using it in so it'll work with pans upto about 10" deep.It has degrees F on the left and C on the right. It's quite clearly marked so I don't expect to have any problems using it.Overall it seems to be quite well made and certainly good value. As for accuracy, I don't know yet but there are very few things for which I'd need to know the exact temperature.

Takes the guess work out of cooking with sugar ...
Have used this a few times now and am very pleased with it. It is a large and reasonably sturdy thermometer - obviously design to use in big pans. It has a clip on the back so you can secure the thermometer to the side of you pan and this slides up and down, so can be adjusted to the height of the pan being used. This doesn't fit too well on shaped pans, but would be fine on straight sided pans. The use and care instructions are clear - heat the thermometer in the pan with the produce being made, don't put it in to high temps from cold; allow the thermometer to cool, before hand washing with non-abrasive products. It's a bit fiddly to clean, but I think if you follow these basic instructions, you should get long service from this thermometer. The metal frame provides some protection to the thermometer, but you need to bear in mind that the thermometer itself is glass and therefore is fragile and would probably not withstand being dropped.I have been using the thermometer for fairly small quantities of fudge and marshmallow and it has still worked fine. I have always been a bit dubious about making sweets, but having this new piece of equipment has given me the confidence to start successfully making some homemade sweets. I like the fact there are pointers at the correct temps for soft ball, hard ball, cracking etc., which is very useful.Overall it is a very useful piece of equipment at a very reasonable price.

Not easy to read thermometer.
It is not clear what temperature the thermometer is reading. I had to keep moving it around to see the red line. I had seen a digital thermometer and I think that may be more user friendly. It does show all the main temp points I.E hard ball/ soft ball which is very helpful. The clip to hold it to the saucepan is to high up so I had to hold it. A another clip further down would be helpful.

Great if you're cooking crack
I brought this thermometer as I was starting a brewing hobbie. However, upon opening the amazon parcel I quickly realised that the thermometer has temperatures indicated for you to choose whether you want to cook your crack hard or soft. Although I don't know much about cooking crack I do know that this thermometer has served me well with home brewing. it is big and bulky so is better when using a large pot sufficiently filled with fluid. The clip on the back although useful isn't perfect but works for me. My only annoyance is that with the saucepan I was using I couldn't comfortably cover it using the lid whilst using the thermometer however, I'm sure if I used a bigger pot I would have no problem. saying that I still managed it. Overall this is a sturdy and handy thermometer with the temperature in both Celsius and Fahrenheit and I'm glad I purchased it and I will get a lot of use out of it.

Great value for money!
I usually use a cooking thermometer with a probe, but it was never long enough and often my fingers would get too near the boiling sugar. The longest thermometer I found is this one, Kitchen Craft Stainless Steel Thermometer. What a great buy and value for money. I've had it less than a week and already used it twice. Clear instructions on back of thermometer and no issue using it. Temperature was perfectly fine. I love the fact that it comes with a moveable clip and you can hang the thermometer. Much sturdier and solid compared to thermometer with a probe. Highly recommended!

Easy to use. Easy to clean. Love it!
Excellent product. I use this all the time for homemade sweets and jams. It has all the various temperatures listed up the side for whatever you are trying to make. Very handy when you need to heat things to a certain temp for hard candy or fudge. It sits well in the pan and reads temperature well. I could not be without this. Best thing I've ever bought!
