I presume you mean the Ergotron LX? If so 'yes' as I have one in my campervan and in my home.

Q: is this made of metal or plastic

The square part is metal and plastic the clip part being plastic the other half is all metal

Q: Would the bracket be strong enough to hold a screen that is on an attachment that rotates/pivots without it coming detached?

We have a 24 inch tv fastened to this which is on a rotating/pivoting bracket fastened to the wall, no problems.
