Special Note from Mommy: " I love to cook and my house is always filled with people and food. I decided to make these sauces so that I could pass on my recipes and flavors to my children and grandchildren. My kids and grandkids love these sauces so much they said that I had to share my flavors with the world! Each of these sauces is different but feel free to experiment with them - there is no wrong way to use them. Thank you for your interest in these sauces and I hope you enjoy them as much as we do. " This is a classic kimchi flavor enhancer. Salt some napa cabbage, make it sweat, and then pour this sauce on and let ferment. I also use this as a salad dressing, poured over lettuce and thinly sliced cabbage.

A Disappointment that ended up in the Trash
I was skeptical of this item but my (Korean) mother insisted on trying it because the Korea Times had published an article praising Mommy Sauce. I ordered the Kimchi Sauce since my mother regularly makes kimchi and she wanted to try it out. What a disappointment! The sauce was dark brown (instead of the expected bright red) and it smelled... bad. I don't know if maybe this was an expired bottle of Mommy Sauce, but I really hope this isn't the real thing because it was not good. My mother still used some of it to make a small batch of kimchi but it looked and smelled awful so she ended up throwing everything away. Guess we'll be sticking to normal Korean pepper powder and other traditional ingredients to make kimchi. This is what we get for trying to take a shortcut...

Definitely a new staple in my kitchen.
If you're familiar with Korean Gochujang, this sauce smells just like it off the bat. Because of that, I was a bit worried it'd be too salty. But I was pleasantly surprised that it wasn't salty at all! It is just provides a clean, slightly spicy Kimchi flavor to my dishes without the mess of actual kimchi. Five stars for me!
