Brilliant learning tool!
Dr Moku flashcards are one of the best, if not the best aid in learning not only Hiragana, Katakana, but also Kanji. I can’t imagine how I’d have memorised all the Kana characters if not for these cards, and now embarking on learning challenging Kanji I can already tell how helpful a tool these cleverly designed cards are. The design is very clear. On one side there is the symbol and the mnemonic to help you associate it with something pictorial, on the other side you have pronunciation in both ‘on’ & ‘kun’, and the order in which to write the symbol, which I recommend to always follow as it definitely helps to write it easier and to remember how to better. The main thing to keep in mind is to enjoy learning this fascinating system of an intriguing language, it’s almost like cracking a code. Each time you learn a new letter/symbol it gives you lasting satisfaction, you feel proud to recognise it on a packet of say miso jar, or during credits after watching a Japanese film. Learning Japanese has been an adventure for me, one I don’t want to give up on, however challenging it is, and these flashcards are gems that help to unearth the whole vast treasure that lays ahead. :D

Small font on the back
Cards are as described, which is printed on high quality varnished paper and clever mnemonics for the kanji. The concern I have is that the furigana (hiragana and katakana of the on/kun meanings) on the reverse side are in a very small font! This is challenging just because as a beginner you want to be able to distinguish the characters really really quickly and it’s not great to have to squint and focus on the little hiragana katakana and other kanji. It’s easy to miss how instantly recognisable our alphabet is even at very small font sizes. Not so great with complex characters on a flash card.
