Lucky Numbers [DVD]

Zany, Dark, Clever. What Else You Need?
Not sure why this film got bad reviews and was a box office fizzle because the script is clever, the plot is clever, the directing is clever and the acting is clever. Perhaps Travolta was being trashed for being a Scientologist. Reviewers are a cartel and often known to hew to the party line. I thought the movie was funny as hell with a savvy critique of local TV broadcasting and the venality of media star wannabes. This puppy sits on the edge of cult classicville. Question authority.

STUPID WASTE OF TIME
I was doing other things while waiting for something the least bit interesting to happen. Half way through, it was clear that nothing interesting was every going to happen in this film. Can't understand how it has 4 stars. Do people get paid for giving good reviews? A lot of reasonably good name actors in this, but geeze louise, what a stupid, not funny, not interesting film!

Lucky Numbers:I think it's a hoot!
Some have criticized this Nora Ephron directed movie adapted from the Adam Rednick screenplay as a below average. I am not as gloomy. I'm here to say it is a comedy. I repeat a comedy! I think this movie kind of bounces along through good and bad situations. I think the whole movie takes on the steady likeable melody of "Easy Money" sung by Ricky Lee Jones and on the soundtrack of "Numbers". Also, "Mack the Knife". accompanies to a bludgeoning mugging. John Travolta and Lisa Kudrow star as two amateur swindlers trying to rig the Harrisburg lotto. Lisa plays a very funny Crystal: slim, very pretty, and a mouth as foul as a dog log. I think Lisa's good looks and tantrums make her cussing very funny and I laughed several times at her guiltless behavior over loose sex and foul play. Tragedy strikes while she is sitting in a restaurant and without a care, she complains because the menu hasn't got fried clams. That was a classic for Crystal. Also the loveless sex scenes with Lisa and John are completely spontaneous and funny. This movie follows a 1980 swindle attempt to fix the Pennsylvania Lottery that happened sometime during 1980. The year in the story is 1988. Tim Roth, Ed O'neal, Michael Rapaport, Bill Pullman, and Michael Moore provide some laughs to the mix. Michael Moore "Walter", Crystal's odd ball cousin suffering from asthma is selected to buy the winning crooked ticket. When he wins though he gets bigger ideas about his cut. Crystal has a tantrum and assaults Walter with a choke hold and more harsh language leading to an asthma attack. Crystal will not give him his medication and Walter wheezes to death. This seemingly morbid moment shows kidding death is fair game in this flick. I would like to say this is not a comedy for children. even big children. But Nora gets my vote for spicing up the tale by effectively cutting from scene to scene. She shows just cutting scenes at the right time can be funny. If there is one weakness in this tale I would say the last 20 minutes or so is hard to follow. But I will without a doubt watch it again. GJ

Funny, quirky film.
I enjoyed this film. It was funny. Kudrow steals the film. The entire cast performs well. It's a quirky film with plenty of twists and turns. I believe the film would've been better if it would've made Travolta and Kudrow a serious couple and made the film into a live story. It's a funny film.

I'm not a movie critic.
This movie is just crap. Why would Travolta even consider appearing in this movie? Travolta is a good actor, but it's so obvious this part was not for him. So maybe the director is at fault, or maybe it's the bad script.. I couldn't finish watching.

Silly but kinda fun
This 2000 film is a modestly zany dark comedy has a surprisingly large cast of well known actors. Travolta is his usual silly, mediocre self but the rest of the cast is good. A tale of greed spiraling things out of control and knuckleheads getting their up-comings. Kudrow plays a ruthless wench and that is fun to see. Moderate recommendation.

One of my favorite dark comedies.
I love Dark comedies and every line in this one is a winner. Lisa Kudrow's performance in this one, is amazing. give it a try if you like dark and twisted.

Fun movie!
This movie is smart, fun, and funny. I'd never heard of it before catching it on TV a few months ago, but I couldn't change the channel! It's got great lines with great delivery. Smart, fun, and funny. I just don't know how else to describe it. Travolta is excellent from the start, and Bill Pullman, though he only arrives halfway through the movie, is hilarious. Tim Roth and Lisa Kudrow are also very funny in their roles. The dialogue is easy to follow, but sometimes the humor is quick and subtle, so pay attention! Here are a couple of my favorite lines, but believe me there are a bunch:Jerry the bookie: I mean Jesus Christ himself can't rig the state lottery...unless, unless Jesus had a buddy down at the TV station.Crystal: And I want that ticket back. And I want Dick Simmons dead, you hear me!?Gig: Fine, fine.Crystal: And I want his head cut off so I can hang it from my rear view mirror!Gig: Now that's just your anger talking.

コメディですね。
ロト6の番号に使えると思って買いましたけど、使えませんでした。映画の内容は、ジョン トラボルタがおバカ役で面白かったです。たまにはこういう役もいいかもしれませんね。
