Un auteur mineur à découvrir
A lire absolument avant un voyage dans les Costwolds pour s'mprégner de l'ambiance du lieu. C'est magique. Superbe voyage dans l'Angleterre profonde du début du 20ème siècle

Laurie Lee was a magnificent writer!
I cannot understand why British writer Laurie Lee is not more famous in America. I am a voracious reader, but never ran across his work until I was 59 years old! He was marvelous! What a craftsman of words! His writing should be standard fare in college literature classes. Colorful description, exquisite use of English, beautiful mastery of language! I am so overwhelmed by the brilliance of his writing that words almost fail me. Please, read this book and you will know exactly what I mean!

A MUST READ
Bought this trilogy as it was only marginally more expensive than a single tome.Never got to read Cider with Rosie as a set book at school, but found it wonderful - a simple tale, well told, but capturing an England that has now disappeared, a bucolic paradise in all its simplicity, and crushing poverty. The other books cover Lee’s travels through Spain in the ‘30s; poverty and generosity everywhere amongst peasant people; his civil war experiences are touched on lightly, perhaps because of the inherent detachment of involving yourself in someone else’s war.

Laurie Lee's books are incredible
As I Walked Out One Midsummer Morning is one of my favourite books about Spain. Laurie Lee has a natural flair for telling a good story and his impressions and encounters with the people he meets during his travels are captivating.
