Rutland 500°F RTV High Heat Silicone Sealant – Clear and Tough for Heat
I grabbed this Rutland 10.3 oz clear silicone cartridge to seal some gaps around my wood stove’s vent pipe, and it’s been a reliable performer. Rated for up to 500°F (intermittent) or 450°F (continuous), it’s built for high-heat spots like fireplaces, ovens, or grills. The clear finish is a huge plus—blends right into the stainless steel pipe without looking gaudy like red or black sealants might. Applying it with a caulk gun was smooth; the consistency is thick but workable, and it didn’t sag even on vertical seams. After curing for 24 hours (as recommended), it formed a flexible, rubbery seal that’s held up to a few weeks of daily fires—no cracks, no smoke leaks, and no sign of heat damage. The adhesion is strong too; it stuck to both the metal pipe and the surrounding brick without peeling. I also like that it’s made in the USA—feels good supporting that. The 10.3 oz size gave me plenty to work with—covered about 20 feet of 1/4-inch bead with some left over. A couple cons: the vinegar-like smell during application was intense, so I’d suggest good ventilation or a mask. Also, it’s messy if you’re not careful—wearing gloves saved me from a sticky cleanup. Compared to a cheaper RTV silicone I’ve tried, this one’s heat resistance and flexibility are noticeably better, though it costs a bit more. For high-temp sealing jobs, this stuff shines. It’s versatile (glass, metal, wood, etc.), durable, and discreet with that clear look. I’d give it 4.5 stars—half off for the smell, but rounded up to 5 for how well it works. Great for stoves or any heat-exposed fix—just prep your space!

Adhered Brick To Fireplace
I used this to adhere brick to the metal area on my gas fireplace since it gets really hot. Worked great and is holding up. It does have a very strong smell when using though.

Great, Reliable Product
This is a great RTV product (I've used almost all of the different brands through the years). It is very easy to work with and seems to hold great. Most recently, I used this product to hold faux stone around the chimney of a brick oven. This is obviously using it as more of an adhesive than a sealant. Even so, it was the perfect solution for this project.

Great seal for my fireplace insert.
Had to get this for my fireplace insert when I put in my stainless steel liner. Worked perfect and has held up well so far! Not one complaint.

Plugged a small hole in my BBQ smoker and extra large plastic champagne glass
I used this to plug a small hole in my Weber Smokey Mountain 22" Bullet Smoker after I removed the factory thermometer and installed a new Tel-Tru thermometer. This product works as advertised and I'm very happy with it thus far. I've only smoked in my smoker twice thus far, but so far, the silicone shows no signs of deterioration and I think it will last for quite some time to come. Make sure you clean your target first before applying this, to give it the best chance of adhering to the intended spot. UPDATE 8/23/18: So, the other day my wife came to me and said that we had a problem with an over-sized plastic champagne glass that we intended to fill with alcohol for a large birthday party we were throwing (75 people, glass held about 3 gallons of liquid). We had been given the glass as a gift from a friend who worked at a local grocery story. The glass was used as a prop for Christmas/New Years Eve. Anyway, she gave us the glass and we made plans to use it for this birthday party, but unbeknownst to us, it contained a hole near the base of the glass where liquid would fall out if we filled it. My wife discovered the hole while cleaning the glass in preparation of the party, about 8 hours before the start of the party - OH NO! However, when she came and told me about the problem with the glass, I blinked, thought about it for 2 seconds, and said "I Got this! I can fix this!" So, I dug up the Rutland Products 76C 500-Degree RTV High Heat Silicone Seal, that I had put in my storage shed, and applied a dab of it to the hole. I then pushed it into the hole until it came out the other side. Then I gently wiped the excess from each side and let the glass sit out in the sun for about 5 hours. After that I filled the glass with water and it held the water without a problem! Yay! Problem solved! I then dumped the water out, let it dry until it was party time. When party time arrived, I put some ice and the Holy Water drink I had mixed up the night before (ask me in the comments for the recipe, if you want it, the girls loved it!) into the glass and then the Birthday girls (there were 5 celebrating that night), had he first drink from the glass. The drink in the giant glass was a hit and most importantly, the silicone did it's job and the plug held the entire night. I checked the plug a few days later and it was still in place. I'm very confident that the plug will hold for a long, long time now that it is 100% dry. I definitely recommend this product for plugging small holes, whether they are holes that may get hot, like in my smoker, or they may get wet, like in the example above where I used it to plug a hole in a large, plastic champagne glass.

Instead of sealant coming from nozzle the base broke and all sealant leaked from behind of the tube

I didn't know exactly which product to use to seal an area around the ash dump cover on the outside of a chimney. I emailed Rutland and received excellent advice and support. Highly recommend the product and the company. R. Sinclair, Edmonton, Alberta
