Avoid this book if you're learning Brazilian Portuguese
This book would be useful for those learning European Portuguese. For those learning Brazilian Portuguese this book is next to useless as roughly 50% of the vocabulary contained in the book will not be understood in Brazil.

The Best Portuguese-English Picture Dictionary I've Found!
This is loaded with vocabulary, even some I certainly didn't know. It is replete! The black lines pointing to items in the pictures is the one drawback I can think of--the lines to the items aren't always easy to see. This is the best picture dictionary for Portuguese I've found and I HIGHLY recommend it! As a gift, or for yourself, I don't see how someone could do better. There are about 300 pages with pictures, and there's a back section as well.

European Portuguese dictionary
This is a fun way to learn vocab! I have it in Italian too. Be aware that this is European Portuguese vocab. I'm learning Brazilian Portuguese and if you are too, look up the main differences in the languages so you don't say the wrong (even offensive word) in another country!

Wonderful
This book is full of lots of detailed pictures and different words and a few phrases. Very useful in learning a new language or helping to brush up on one. One disadvantage is it does not have a pronunciation guide.

Not just for kids!
This dictionary was purchased for my children's upcoming visit to Brasil. When it was delivered, they were both fighting over who would "get" this book until it was made clear it was household reference material!I like the fact that the pictures are clear and modern and are grouped by subject matter. For instance, if you are having a conversation about breakfast foods, you open the book to that page and are treated to a buffet of breakfast food items that are clearly marked in both English and Portuguese. The index is broken down into both languages - so if you are looking for a specific word to translate, it will direct you to the right page of pictures. This dictionary does not have any pronunciation keys, but hearing the word from a native is probably the best way to learn to actually speak a language. The size of the book is just right for travel. I would recommend using this in combination with a traditional, alphabetically organized language dictionary.

SO heavy!
This book has such thick, heavy pages that this book weighs way too much to fit in your luggage. Instead, I returned it and relied on off-line Google Translate. The book's pages are quite colorful

A nice way to learn vocabulary in a new language
I love these dictionaries! It makes it much easier for me to remember new vocabulary when I can see a picture of the object the word is for...and more fun to learn. This helped a lot on a recent trip to Portugal. This is for European Portuguese, which is what I wanted.

Excellent, almost exhaustive resource.
Excellent, almost exhaustive resource but inexpensive. Handy size for carrying around. As with all DK books, excellent paper and binding - should last a long time. The pages are well set out with relevant and up-to-date illustrations. Once bought, you can very easily download free app and associated audio very which lists vocabulary in either language A-Z, just toggle. very easily. How to do it is clearly given on pages 8 or 9. I bought 2 copies as I am teaching a Brazilian friend to speak English from scratch. I do not know Portuguese but this is an excellent resource. This book, the associated app, the Google Translate app and a smart phone are all that is needed for us to communicate and learn each other's language easily and quickly.

Plain English
I teach Geography at a South London secondary school; many of my students are from overseas and so have little or no knowledge of the English language. I have therefore accumulated, over the years, a wide range of bi-lingual dictionaries for such students to use within my classroom, and this dictionary has been a welcome addition. The students find it easy to access the information, the pages are clearly set out, the type of words are those one would encounter on a daily basis (obviously, I would love to have more geographical terms and keywords, but that would be an unrealistic expectation!), the images serve to appropriately support the text and the format of the pages is not too confusing or fussy. The students can work on a basic theme that I set them, with some input from me throughout the lesson and, as a result, expand their English language as well as feel an integral member of the working classroom environment. I am sure that it would also be a very handy reference book for anyone in the early/middle stages of learning Portuguese.

Language errors are such that I am not sure I will ever use it.
I love the idea of a visual dictionary, but there are some key faults here. Some words are in Portugal-Portuguese, some in Brazil-Portuguese and some don't seem to be either since my friends and family don't recognise them and use the English loan word instead. This lack of consistency is incredibly frustrating as it means I don't know what language the word is in. Also, they clearly have taken standard pictures across all their visual dictionary range because there are things I would like to see here that are cultually relevant. I'm not sure I will ever use it
