Research and therapeutic usage: Lingzhi may possess anti-tumor, immunomodulatory and immunotherapeutic activities, supported by studies on polysaccharides, terpenes, and other bioactive compounds isolated from fruiting bodies and mycelia of this fungus (reviewed by R. Additional studies indicate that ganoderic acid has some protective effects against liver injury by viruses and other toxic agents in mice, suggesting a potential benefit of this compound in the treatment of liver diseases in humans,[49] and Ganoderma-derived sterols inhibit lanosterol 14α-demethylase activity in the biosynthesis of cholesterol .[50] Ganoderma lucidum compounds inhibit 5-alpha reductase activity in the biosynthesis of dihydrotestosterone.[44] Besides effects on mammalian physiology, Ganoderma lucidum is reported to have anti-bacterial and anti-viral activities.[51][52] Ganoderma lucidum is reported to exhibit direct anti-viral with the following viruses; HSV-1, HSV-2, influenza virus, vesicular stomatitis. Ganoderma lucidum mushrooms are reported to exhibit direct anti-microbial properties with the following organisms; Aspergillus niger, Bacillus cereus, Candida albicans, and Escherichia coli. I have been taking these supplements for some time now and I feel great. I haven't been sick for a long time.

I’ve been taking Reishi since 2009 and this brand for the last five years. It is the best of all the brands I’ve tried. I have a chronic illness and osteoarthritis and this brand keeps me feeling healthy, pain-free and functional with fewer pills. If you are healthy a dose of two pills a day may be sufficient for your immune system to prevent common seasonal illnesses. For more serious illness, with the other brand I had to take 6 pills at night and 6 in the evening to alleviate symptoms. With Host Defense, I get the same results with two at night and two in the morning. I like that it is grown in conditions I know contain no soil contaminants. I also read that Host Defense Turkey Tail mushrooms was the brand used in medical trials for breast cancer, which were undertaken at well-known medical centers and with good results. The price on Amazon is less than the normal price of 59.99.

I gave this four stars only so I can warn those who tend to have acne, to be aware that it may trigger it. I'm guessing it increased hormones. That's just a guess on my part. When I stopped taking it, it stopped. So I tried again really hoping it wasn't the factor. Again, cystic acne. Only a few on the chin, but painful. This was my experience. Every body is unique. If you are struggling with sleep, give it a go and hopefully your body responds well.
