Better Homes and Gardens New Cook Book

Chock full of good ideas and recipes
This cookbook is full of recipes that reads like your mom's sticky, well-loved recipe box. I haven't found anything ground breaking, but that's not really why I purchased it. Although I am already an experienced cook, I've had so much success with BHG recipes in the past that when I saw this new updated edition I decided to add it to my cookbook collection. It's got lots of illustrations of both recipes and techniques. When I first received it I settled back in my favorite chair, snuggled up in an afghan, and browsed through the whole thing. So often I saw a recipe that I recalled eating at a party, picnic, shower, etc. I think BHG is very All-American and this cookbook reflects the foods we've come to know and love. That's not to say it is just a collection of old-fashioned foods. There were plenty of new recipe ideas I've come across, too, but there' nothing too exotic, too expensive, or too difficult for the typical busy but food loving American. A lot of the recipes are good for rushed week day dinners, but they're better than throwing a can of soup on chicken and instant rice and calling it dinner. I've only had it a few weeks but I have already made several recipes from it and they have all been straightforward and a hit with family and friends. This is probably the cookbook I will recommend for my sons, who are 20 and 22, when they move out on their own. FYI: I would recommend this ring bound edition. I first purchased the plastic comb edition but returned it in exchange for the ring bound edition. The paper in the plastic comb edition was very thin and the plastic comb was so tight that page turning was going to forever be a very delicate affair. The ring bound is only a few dollars more, but unless you are very careless there doesn't seem to be much chance of tearing.

Great Gift!
My Mom used it, Her Mom Used it (Grandma) and now I use it... and give it as a gift. For the aspiring Cook/Chef it's an priceless start on the journey to culinary masterpieces that will have friends and family begging for more or begging for the recipe. The recipes are easy and the book is packed full of tips and techniques and conversions and everything you could ever need. The layout is great and the standard 3 ring binder allows the book to lay flat while following a recipe. Although I have pretty much advanced as a cook since the first time I used the BH&G cookbook 40 years ago in my Mom's kitchen... I still find myself reaching for this cookbook when I need to just make something that is easy and tastes good and uses good ingredients. Great for young people first getting out on their own, children... and just people that want to learn how to cook... you really can't go wrong with this one. Buy it for yourself or someone you care about... you won't regret it.

Better Homes & Gardens New Cookbook
Having lost my old reliable copy of this book (an older edition) to a flood, I was at first reluctant to buy. But I am so glad that I did. This new edition is better organized -- colored edge tabs and good indeces. The photos are clear and the recipies that I have tried were easy to follow and turned out very well. As with all bound books, there is the slight problem of avoiding damage to the binding and smearing dirty hands on the pages. Perhaps a ring-bound version would be a bit better. The pages are glossy, however, so that marks usually wipe off. The "cooking basics" information in the front of the book is also very useful -- equipment, food storage, ingredients, nutrition, seasonings, technques. Another good feature is that each tabbed section comes with its own index. This makes it easier to find items in that section without going back to the main index. No space is wasted. Even the back of the hard front and back covers are filled with Equivalents and Emergency Substitutions respectively.

Prompt delivery.
Updated recipes. Cauliflower snow ball recipe is omitted from this version of cookbook. Using my mother’s edition when I need to look it up. Otherwise happy.

Don't Buy The Digital Version….Unless you want to work… Big disappointment
This review pertains to the Kindle version only. I love the information in this cookbook. It's a great cookbook. I've been using various versions for decades. So I thought I'd buy the digital version and avoid the spills and dirty pages which invariably happen with the print versions. However, when I went to cut and paste a recipe so I could print it out to actually use it, I found that it does not retain the formatting of the recipe, so you wind up having to re-edit the file, if you want to print it out. I'm sure the publishers do this to prevent people from copying the whole book, but after paying an extravagant $16.50 for a digital version, I should at least be able to make copies for my own use.Publishers are protected by copyright from anyone republishing it commercially, so why not treat your users a little better and retain that formatting? Not everyone is able to reformat a complex file. I can, but it takes time, and that's a big shortcoming for this book, which is otherwise fine. Its easy to navigate using search, and that's a big plus if your computer is hefty enough to handle the very large file. It winds up being a little slow to use as well.

Better Homes Cookbook a Great 15th Edition.
Great Cookbook with lots of recipes tried, true fresh and new ones. This book is about an inch thick , I measured it for fun no kidding it really is . The new Cookbook has a lot of recipes and has something to please everyone tastes buds for sure. Better Homes has a good 15th edition with ``Jan Miller`` as Editor has she puts it ``Tried & True , Fresh & New`` recipes . This Cookbook is worth the money from cooking basic to techniques and all these tips and safety guides lines. The meals and deserts are great don`t forget all the suggestions in this cookbook and let your imagination go wild with your cooking. I really recommend this Cookbook as the basic and for everyday use..

Very good starter cookbook
This is an American book, and one should be prepared to the mentions of American products and measures. This is also not an advanced cookbook - but then, it isn't what it claims to be either. That said, this is an excellent starter cookbook and guide to kitchen-keeping not just for a new bride or groom, but anyone who has moved out of their parents' home and has no idea what that funny-shaped pan or pot is for (and wants to learn).Directions and explanations are very good, the recipes truly easy, and the really nice make-it-your-own pages (which let you select options you add up to a specific dish) are a wonderful teaching tool. Ideas of how to use leftovers of any particular dish (two dishes presented side-by-side as cook today, eat today and tomorrow combos) are also a fantastic idea.Generally very recommended, but not for anyone who already knows how to cook. It's a good book of basics, not anything to put polish on your fancy cooking skills.

attention à la taille
le format original a été très réduit, et donc difficilement lisible. de plus imprimé sur du papier gris et avec un typo pas pratique.
