Yes, I have done this. You can cut it into as many smaller strings as you want. Sorry I took so long to reply. -- IMPORTANT -- be sure to keep track of which end of each string is the Upstream end, because you must feed the data signal into that end. The control data goes into each little WS2811 board through the upstream wire and is passed to the next one through the downstream wire. You can connect power at either end but the data line can only be connected to the Upstream end. -- I am using the FastLED library, which works great: http://fastled.io/ You mentioned using an Arduino-ish controller. I've used a Uno and an ESP8266-12E, and the same code actually runs on both if you include the following to set the data pin depending on where it's running: #if defined(ESP8266) #define DATA_PIN D3 #else // assume Arduino Uno #define DATA_PIN 3 #endif

Q: What is the color code for the wires (+5v, gnd, din, dout)?

As of December 2020, the color codes are: red is power, white is ground, green is data. Arrows on the circuit boards indicate the direction of the data.

Q: Is it possible to individually control the pixels via a DMX decoder?

I am not sure about a DMX but I have controlled them individually with an Arduino.
