Caveat...I'm not a doctor but rather a structural engineer (lol) so I'm science minded, logical, and rather enjoy reading articles and researching cutting edge science/biochemistry especially as it relates to me. I initially googled Glutathione after reading an article that discussed preliminary trial results of drastically reducing the aging processes in mice (i.e they outlived the control subjects by quite a bit). Once I read up on what Glutathione is and does in the human body, I wondered if it was available in supplemental form. I'm not one that ever takes vitamins and supplements because most of what we need can be achieved through a somewhat healthy diet and I also know that overabundance of certain vitamins/chemicals can sometimes lead to inadvertent side-effects/issues. With that being said, I looked it up on Amazon and through some further wiki-digging about Glutathione and Cysteine, settled on this product combination. I'm 47 so not too old but definitely starting to notice normal aging milestones like randomly sore joints, now having to hold my phone a little further away so I can actually read it, etc. My goal is to slow that aging process down if possible. I read some other reviews that were critical of the 50 mg amount of Glutathione in these pills, but my logic is that we don't want our body thinking it doesn't need to keep naturally producing it and that is where the Cysteine comes into play. Cysteine is a constituent amino acid required for our natural biosynthesis of Glutathione (along with glycine and glutamic acid). Increasing the availability of Cysteine, could logically shore up the Glutathione production. Cysteine also, and more importantly to me who drinks more beer than I probably should, supports liver function by assisting in the metabolization of Acetaldehyde (the nasty toxin responsible for hangovers and liver damage) into acetic acid. The vitamin C, aside from being a go to immune system booster, it is my understanding from what I've read if I'm reading it right, actually helps get the Glutathione and Cysteine into your system and then plays a sort of symbiotic role with the Glutathione, which in turn recycles vitamin C by returning it to a 'reduced' state (antioxidant) if it has become oxidized by doing it's normal antioxidant job. Because this is an oral supplement, its subject to total destruction by our digestive enzymes etc. which is why the directions tell you to take it on an empty stomach. I drink water with it to speed up the process of getting it into the system before my stomach has a chance to destroy it all. As far as benefits I've experienced, I know for certain the Cysteine is getting in because my hair feels stronger and thicker than it ever has (i.e. not breaking and/or falling out as easily). Keratin (what our hair, nails, and outer layers of skin are made of) requires and uses the Cysteine to create 'disulfide bridges' in the hair, nails, and skin which confer additional strength and rigidity. So, if the Cysteine is making it to the system, certainly it's also available to bolster my own Glutathione synthesis. I recommend anyone interested in the whole 'how things work' with regards to this product to read the Wiki articles/explanations of Glutathione (and Glutathione reductase), Cysteine, Keratin, and vitamin C. There's clearly a scientific reason 'Life Extension' chose this combination and quantities (dose amounts) for this product. Kudos to them!

After reading some material about this type of supplement, I bought these. Usually I never see a difference in how I feel because I’ve got osteoarthritis and diabetes. However, after taking it a month, I have a lot more energy and feel much much better. It’s hard to tell with one supplement but I bought a bread maker, have made bread, reorganized my kitchen using my kitchen ladder and scrubbed the kitchen floor all in one week. Husband thinks he has a new wife. So bizarre and I’m grateful. Have no idea of this caused it but am thinking it must have because rest of med regime is the same.
