Super helpful
I bought this book and cd set for a song that I was certain I was going to sing for an audition, only to get it and decide on a different song. Very helpful in finding song that are within your range. Planning on buying them rest of them eventually.

Great for a music theater singer
These Hal Leonard books with CDs are great for those who regularly practice singing but don't have an accompanist around. Make sure you check the song lists so you know what you're getting. I love the variety covered in their books and they keep coming out with more Volumes!

Nice
Excellent ... but not worth buying new at retail price. At retail, they’re overpriced for an item that sells fairly well.

Love the anthology
It's a great book and a "must have" for any mezzo/alto/belter out there. The CDs make it even better because you can really learn the music. Not all songs are going to work for any one person but there will be many songs for everyone. It's worth every penny.

Good Anthology
Though I'll admit I don't really like all the songs in this book, it is extremely accurate to the original pieces it features. I have purchased some musical theater anthologies where the songs were snipped short, or adjusted in key, for whatever reason. This is the real deal. The CDs that come with this book do NOT cut it for learning the music. Many of the songs you will have to have learned a capalla first, in order to be able to sing with the piano tracks. These are ACCOMPANIMENT tracks, NOT KARAOKE tracks. This makes the CDs not good learning materials, but good PERFORMING materials. If you don't have an accompanist, you can use the tracks, as the sound quality is very good and they are very accurate to the piece. The accompanist on the tracks sometimes plays the vocal part, if there's a silent piano part, but don't worry...it fits in well, and doesn't sound like it was tacked in there just to make it easier. Many of these songs are meant to be belted, so get these if you are a true mezzo-soprano/belter. My tessitura is higher than this, and most of these songs sit awkwardly between my head voice and chest voice, so they are a little awkward in my voice type (lyric soprano). That said, however, I find the mezzo anthologies have much more variety in them as far as styles go, so yes, there are some songs in here that I can, and do, sing. The soprano musical theater anothologies I find just have a whole lot of light, lyrical head voice singing, which is fine, but you'll find a wider range of songs in the mezzo books.

Purchased for my daughter. She's played out of it and the other volumes already many times. She's in Master program at ASU and finds them very helpful.

Problems with accompanying CD
I bought the book as a second copy and was looking forward to using the cd.Unfortunately the cd did not play properly and kept skipping. Disappointing as the cd was why I made the specific purchase.
