Fast, two sided and does not misfeed !
This is a review of the Fujitsu 1125N scanner. Recently I had decided to get rid of paper documents at home. This involves scanning in written material and disposing of the originals. I had been using a scanner with a horizontal sheet feeder attached to my printer but unfortunately although the flatbed scanner worked perfectly the sheet feeder kept misfeeding, jamming and was generally unreliable. It seemed to me that it would be a better idea to get a more reliable stand-alone scanner with an automatic document feed and buy a cheaper printer next time round. The Fujitsu SP-1125N scanner was more compact than I expected having a relatively small footprint (even smaller when the paper tray is closed). I bought the version with a network connector as well as USB to make it easy for anyone on our network to access it. On arrival the scanner needed to have the document feeder and the paper tray attached, which took a couple of minutes. It then needed connecting to a USB port or an Ethernet cable. Before loading any software I tried to see if the computer would recognise the scanner but it did not. In retrospect it may have done if I had started with the USB connection. The scanner comes with a CD of software but I decided to use the latest software downloaded from the website instead. I loaded the various drivers and the Fujitsu capture utilities but I did not load Abbey FineReader because I was happy with the simple OCR capabilities of the Fujitsu software. I had read that Presto Page manager was also included but I could not find it and from previous experience of this package I would not have loaded it anyway.Once the software was loaded, I run the network scanner selection tool which found the scanner. There is insufficient space to describe the Fujitsu scanning software in detail but it does a good job and it has sophisticated batch capabilities which I have not used yet. I did have a couple of niggling software issues. 1] The package designed to give access to scanner data, such as numbers of pages scanned etc, failed to run when the scanner was on the network but worked fine when connected using USB; 2] The software to find the scanner on the network was hard to find again on my PC when I needed to reuse it.Scanning can be initiated from software or by using a button on the front and is far superior to my previous scanner. The Fujitsu is much faster, it scans both sides of the paper in one go, it does not misfeed and it seems to tolerate a range of paper sizes, even in the same feed. I suspect the better feeding is partly down to the fact the paper sits almost vertically above the scanner so feeds with the help of gravity rather than needing to be dragged in to the horizontal feeder I had used before.I am pleased with my decision to opt to buy an older version of a more robust office model scanner rather than buy a more modern, possibly less reliable, machine. Interestingly I ordered the slower SP-1120N but the faster 1125N was sent in its place - no complaints there !

Nice & simple to use
Having had a Fujitsu fi series scanner for 15 years it was time to upgrade to a newer model. Read the reviews on the SP1120 and thought this is the one for me. When the machine arrived it was actually the SP1125 (slightly faster) and had it up and running within 10 minutes. So far it seems to be working fine and it's so compact it would ideally suit any small office or business operating from home. Just get one, you won't regret it.

What they don't tell you...
As others have mentioned the actual model that arrived was the SP1125N. I'm using this to archive paper correspondence that goes back years. Great little machine and has saved me plenty of time (and boredom). However, there is something that you might buy this machine for that isn't available depending on whether you are Mac-based or not. The Ethernet link doesn't work with Mac-based systems; it has to be connected via USB. Now, whether this is due to software limitations or whether this is due to the Mac infrastructure it really should be pointed out when selling the item to you. It's a slight disappointment but I imagine if it was the selling point you might be more than a little hacked off and you could claim it's been mis-sold. This isn't necessarily the fault of the seller, either, as only by looking at the documentation from Fujitsu can you tell this.
