Solid well packed nice polish. Great bowl size with enough abrasive to grind well.

I use this to grind up spices it works very well and is easy to clean. It comes with instructions on seasoning it before your first use. It is very durable and should last a lifetime.

Really liked the solid feel of the set. It is also truly non-slip based on the base pad supplied with the item. Instructions for seasoning the mortar and pestle also included in the box and was a nice touch. I've used it already to grind some spices and some herbs and it seems like there are ridges designed in the mortar that help speed the process along. Super nice item and a very welcome addition to my kitchen.

Fantastic mortar and pestle! I was a little overwhelmed by the selection of granite mortar and pestles here on Amazon, but chose the Gorilla Grip Medium based on reviews and pics—looked sturdy, well made, and the reviews consensus agreed. And they were right—this thing is the prefect weight and does it’s job very well, and rinses sparkling clean with only water (after proper seasoning). I’ve been impressed and wonder how I got along without this thing for so long.If you’re on the fence about size—the medium (6”) is a good adequate size for those cooking for 2-3 people, maybe even for 4, depends on appetites. Largish quantities of spices and aromatics are no problem, what I am talking about here is guacamole or pesto.Seasoning was easy enough—my second batch of rice came out white, but I did a third round, filling the mortar cup about 3/4 full of rice to focus on grinding at the sides; it’s easy to grind away at the bottom and the overall lower bowl during seasoning, but the sides are a little trickier...! Finished my seasoning by smashing to a paste two batches of garlic/ginger/cumin seeds/coriander seeds, spreading it evenly all over the interior of the mortar and over the pestle, and then letting it sit on overnight (12 hours). A little excessive? Yeah, but it allowed me to use and bond with this great new kitchen ally, and it’s now easy to rinse very clean with no trace of odor/residue lingering within the unpolished granite whatsoever. Highly recommend this mortar and pestle!

It is pretty nice except for the fact that the pestle's upper edge where your hand presses against to apply pressure to whatever you are grinding, could be rounded a lot more to make it more comfortable to apply the appropriate pressure. I think it is a good weight and the one I received was well made and should last a lifetime and beyond.

I bought this for my home chef Husband for Christmas. He occasionally hinted at wanting one for a long time and this year I wracked my brain for something to get for the man who has and loves kitchen gadgets. When he opened it, he was like a giddy child. LOL! He did not expect it and is so happy with the product. It is larger than I thought it would be even though I intentionally bought the 2 cup and quite heavy, but once he seasoned it and used it for the first time, he was very happy with the size and ease of use. The higher sides help contain the seasonings while you grind them, and the weight and non-slip pad provides great control while using it. I am personally benefiting from the different spice grind mixtures he is coming up with! If you are looking for a M&P I would highly recommend this one.
