Phenomenal Value Remote
You're the kind of guy (or gal) who is a savvy shopper - you're looking for a deal, and you have stumbled upon one.Lets be clear - I have a couple remotes; I have a high-end backlit one from Lenovo that I love dearly, but it probably runs 10-15 times what you're looking to spend. Does it have more features? Absolutely. Does it offer any real functionality a lower end remote like this doesn't? Not really. For being admittably "No Name" brand, this device has a surprisingly solid build (at least the ones I've received). The mouse movement is a little choppy, but it functions well and does the job I'd expect it to. You're also looking at something probably more robust, since it doesn't require any drivers (beyond the standard USB Keyboard/Mouse one you already have). I've an older ATI All-In-Wonder remote that has been a nightmare to run on modern machines - you can pretty much assume this will NEVER happen with this remote. There are a lot of keys and functions, and some aren't quite in the most rational place. However, within about 20 minutes I was more or less used to the layout, and have had very minimal clumsy mistakes. Really, it's your keyboard less the letters and numbers, focusing more on your special predefined keys (volume, play, desktop, Windows, directions, etc).I've seen complaints about the instruction manual; let me point out it is ENTIRELY unnecessary. When was the last time you used the manual for your keyboard or mouse? You should probably expect the same for this. The red Ø button? That turns it off. The ones with arrows on them? They're for navigating. I assume you've probably put a battery in something before. You get the picture. You hear comparisons to Sony or Lenovo. Lets be clear - this product is entirely inferior; really, are you surprised? I haven't generally had the experience of paying 1/20th of the cost on something and still expect them to be on par. This is the Honda Civic of remotes; a solid build, but you probably shouldn't expect it to drive like an Lexus LS.Lets assume it arrives broken (due to the psychopath who may have punted it all the way to your house). You're out what, $7? ORDER ANOTHER. For the price, this item is entirely worth it and of a much superior build than its ticket price would lead you to believe. If you hate it, you're out the sales tax on the one you're going to buy next.If you're looking for a Lenovo/Logitech/Sony, why are you even looking at this?

Just what I needed
This item arrived today. I opened up the box, put batteries in the remote and plugged in the IR. It worked perfectly right out of the box. I am using Windows 7 and there was no need to install drivers or any other software. It is truly plug and play. I tested it with Windows Media Player with both music and movies and it works great. I also tested it with opening, running and closing some of the programs I have installed on my PC. No problems. The mouse button works like any other track pad. It takes a little getting used to but it works fine. I'm used to using one on my Blackberry and this one actually works better. Some other reviewers have said it feels cheap. Maybe it does a little, but it feels no cheaper than my Comcast remote or any of the other remotes in my house so I have no complaints about that.As far as the IR is concerned, again no problems for me. I tried it from different areas in the room and it worked fine. I even had the reciever hanging over the side of the table so it was actually facing the floor and it still worked. The room I'm in is not that large, but it's the room I'll be using it in so, no complaints from me....i just typed this using the number pad on the remote...It works like a mobile phone without a qwerty keyboard. It's kind of a pain but it does work well. All in all I love this remote. It does everything I wanted it to do and a whole lot more. It's going to take a while to get used to the layout. My only real complaint so far about that is the placement of the "enter" button. But once I'm used to it I'm sure it will be fine.*Edited to add I tried it out with Boxee, which is one of the main reasons I bought it, and it works great. Now even my husband can watch online movies on the TV without it being a big hassle for me since he knows nothing about computers. I just have to set it up for him and give him the remote. :)

Working fine on the Raspberry Pi and laptop with Windows 8 (64)
Working fine on the Raspberry Pi and laptop with Windows 8 (64) easy install on both devices just plug and play there was no messing. The only thing, I forgot this is an Infrared remote not RF like my previous unit so you need to aim at the receiver obviously for it to work, being used to my old remote it took a few seconds for it to register why it wasn't working, this was me being an idiot and not the fault of the product!!!!Delivery time and packaging was reasonable I am happy with the build quality. It is what it is, a cheap remote delivered for a few quid including receiver and batteries. I have no complaints and as long as it carries on working as is I would highly recommend.

Perfect for HTPC
Perfect for my combination of XP and a Harmony remote - I discarded the included remote and use only the sensor, works flawlessly with XP, I inserted it in the USB before booting and it worked from the first try. I set my Harmony to Chinavasion CVSB 983 as another reviewer mentioned, works no problems. In order to have the remote power on/off the PC in XP, in Power Management in Control Panel I set the power button to "Put the PC on Stand By" and in System->Device Manager->Mice I found the device and again in Power management I enabled "Allow this device to wake the PC from stand by". The only annoying little detail wass the flashing blue light on the face of the case when the PC was in stand by - I stuck a piece of black electrical tape on top of it, blends flawlessly with the case design and renders the case lights invisible. This is probably the best thing one can add to an HTPC rig in terms of value per money spent.

Does what it promises, not great but decent cursor control. It's so nice not having to get up to pause, go back or ffwd your computer while watching an online movie.
