Jack Frost (The Guardians of Childhood)

William Joyce's JACK FROST is my all time favorite one!
William Joyce has once again captured the wonder of childhood with Jack Frost's story. Told in the same fashion, and given the same visually stunning, old-fashioned illustrations, the story of Jack Frost is as mesmerizing as the first two books in The Guardians of Childhood series, The Man In The Moon, and The Sandman. The long awaited arrival of this book's release lives up to all that I had hoped it would be and more.I've long been a fan of William Joyce's The Guardian's of Childhood series. These books are some of our all time favorite children's picture books. Not only are the illustrations visually stunning, the stories themselves are captivating for readers of all ages. The stories are about guardians who's job is to keep safe the merriment of childhood. Protecting their hopes, their dreams, and their hearts. These valiant Guardians offer hope, and courage, as they keep children safe from darkness of Pitch.Jack Frost's story is one I've always been fascinated with. Learning about Jack Frost's origins, and his history with the Man In The Moon is something I absolutely loved reading about. Jack Frost's story is one of courage, and valor. I have always admired his character, but do so even more, now that I know more about him. The story about Jack Frost is about who Jack was before he became Jack Frost, how he became Jack Frost, and what he does now, as a Guardian of Childhood. I imagine that if you already didn't love Jack Frost, you will after you read his story. This book is one of my all time favorite children's books. Jack Frost is definitely my favorite out of the Guardians of Childhood series. That is saying a lot, considering I loved the previous two books in the series. If you have not yet done so, I highly recommend picking up the series. If you've already read the first two books in the series, than I definitely recommend picking up Jack Frost's book.To William Joyce, thank you for brining Jack Frost's story to life!

Good addition to the collection
I am a great fan of William Joyce and started collecting his Guardians of Childhood for me son. So far we have the Man on the Moon and the Sandman which were both so touching. Not to say that Jack Frost isn’t, but so far the other two we’ve read outshine it and I wouldn’t describe this one as a favorite. I do very much like how Jack’s relationship with The Man on the Moon is included in the book (So it’d be helpful to read his story first before Jack’s) The illustrations are beautifully on or with the rest of the series.

Great for Adults and Kids
Relative to a lot of other books out there, I really enjoy reading these books to my 4yo... and since I'm the one reading them, that's kinda important. My son is good with them--the art is fantastic--although the writing is merely decent.

Beautiful from cover to cover. a new favorite.
Beautifully illustrated and written as expected of Joyce's books. I can't tell you how much my son loves these books, man in the moon is his favorite still, but we read this tonight because he was so excited when it came in the mail. He actually wanted to go to bed tonight just to read it. He spent fifteen minutes after the story was over looking at the pictures and recounting the story to me as though I hadn't just read it to him (he's three)I live for these moments. And this book was amazingly beautiful (I love that nightlight is Jack)My son adores all of the Joyce books (fantastic flying books is another favorite of ours) and I'm planning on buying the series of Guardian books for the older age group so that we'll have those as well.

Beautifully illustrated and written
I purchased this as a gift for my nephew, who is too small to be able to read on his own. The story is beautifully written and illustrated, though a bit long-winded for a children's book. This is one of the "Guardians of Childhood" series, which has both picture books and chapter books that tell the stories of classic characters that children love and "believe in" as they grow up. I highly recommend this book, as well as all of the books in this series.

Beautiful art, follows the book series not the movie
This picture book goes with the book series "The Guardians of Childhood" by William Joyce, and NOT the movie inspired by that book series, "Rise of the Guardians". It seems there's a lot of people confused by this. This is not the origin story of the movie!Jack Frost, but the book!Jack Frost. The art is gorgeous - its colorful and bold and is far beyond what you would expect from children's books. The story is a touch confusing because it is a simplified and condensed version of book!Jack's origin, but if you're a fan of the book series it's perfect. The art alone made this a worthwhile purchase.

Just as beautiful as all his other books
I discovered the art and stories of William Joyce several years ago, and I was so excited to see that he had come out with a new Guardians of Childhood book. Jack Frost is just like all his other books: the artwork is incredible, the story is wonderful and both of those elements will keep children (and parents) spellbound. It's one of those books you'll want to have in your library forever and ever--not just for your children but for your own enjoyment, too. I have loved all of Joyce’s work and can’t wait to see what he comes out with next.

Good but not my favorite
Just as I love the larger young adult versions of The Guardians, so I love these picture books. This Jack Frost addition is well done and my kids and I enjoyed diving back in to the story. But this was not my favorite of the series so far. The mythology or backstory just doesn't click quite as well as the others. My son and I both like the Sandman story the best.Still, great bedtime reading. And gorgeous illustrations.
