Excellent pickup choice, especially for the price!
I am very happy with this pickup! It was easy to install (I did not want to drill into my guitar strap hole to make it bigger in order to accommodate the plug in part). I used the items that came with the pickup to attach it TO the strap hole along with my strap and it works just fine, I don't mind the bit of wire coming out of the sound hole because it is not in the way. Many years ago I bought a Seymour Duncan sound hole pickup (which was fine) for a LOT more money, and this Donner is every bit as good, and the price was just awesome!! I used this at church through an amp. and the sound was excellent, no feed back or noise at all. The mahogany wood looks very nice with my guitar as well. I highly recommend this pickup!

Sound is good but there were no clear installation instructions
I had received this Pickup about a month ago and had been so busy I did not have the time to install it in my nylon string guitar. The box comes without any installation instructions, so I had to do some guess work. Initially I wanted to do and internal installation, but later decided to just leave it outside and apply the included items for outside installation. It was quite easy and straightforward and just took me about 10 - 15 minutes to figure out where to put the pick ups and cables in a neat and slight decent way. One of the things that I did not like were the plastic anchors. They were easily unhooked from placement once installed. I had to hook them up over and over again until I decided to leave them unhook (they would not clip on). I hooked it up to my sound console and the sound is very good. I had previously had other pick ups in this guitar but I MUST ADMIT THIS IS THE BEST I have had to date. Highs and lows are clear, although in my case there were more highs than lows. With some tweaking in my sound console the sound was what I was looking for. So in my opinion this is a very good pickup and for the price I cannot expect more, hence I am satisfied with the purchase.

Great product for the price
At this price, I was expecting a horrible, barely functional pickup for me to use on my beater guitar. I was pleasantly proven wrong! The pickup is incredibly easy to install and even provides a nondestructive way to mount the wires and output jack. The sound quality is "not bad." Tonally, it is a bit weak on the low frequencies, and very neutral on the mids and treble. You wont be able to show off too much nuanced guitar playing as it may not translate 100% through the pickup, nor will it enhance the guitar tone in any way. However, because of how neutral it sounds and uncolored it is, it does allow the natural sound of the guitar to come through, which most acoustic guitar players prefer. The pickup is also not very sensitive. I have to bump the gain up quite a bit in order to get it at a decent volume. It is very clean, as opposed to hotter pickups that have some saturation and crunch to them. However this is expected out of a passive pickup that sits a bit farther from the strings, as opposed to an electric guitar where the pickups are typically adjusted to be much closer to the strings. I do appreciate the volume and tone wheels, although I found that I will probably never touch them again after setting them once. It's clear that the engineer that designed this paid attention to making this pickup in a way that leaves no marks, scratches, blemishes, or residue. I was very impressed. In conclusion, this pickup is amazing for its price. Definitely not studio recording quality but definitely good enough for live performances and gigs! I will update this review with a picture soon!

Great pickup for the money
Bought this pickup last month and installed it in my 1972 Epiphone and am thrilled with the results. It has transformed my old acoustic into so much more than it has ever been. I had seen reviews saying that the volume is low but I have been leaving it turned up and adjusting the volume at the amplifier. If I were to reduce the volume on the pickup it would probably be fine as well. Tone is outstanding and installation was smooth. I did run the wire through the body and have the jack on the end which doubles as a strap button. Bottom line is if you are on the fence I would not hesitate to give this one a go.

OK, Not the Best, Needs Preamp
Pros: Looks good for the most. Price was great. Can be removed via the plug while endpin jack is permanently installed. Sounded good enough when used with a preamp (BEHRINGER V-Tone Acoustic Driver is what I'm using.) Had good string balance. Can be wired in permanently or used without modification. Cons: Very weak signal without the preamp. Was not a solid piece of wood (mine had a glue line in the middle top -- can be seen in the attached pic.) Endpin jack holder was a little floppy. Mounting screws were crooked (I noted that on another review as well.) Conclusion: This is just OK. I wanted something for a beater guitar that could play an open mic and was hoping that it would be strong enough to use without a preamp box, it is not. Has volume to turn down need be to kill feedback. Tone seems useless. I'd recommend spending a little more and getting a Dean Markley or Seymour Duncan (both better and both I'd use without a preamp if I had to) or spending a lot more and getting a DiMarzio (the best I've used) or L.R. Baggs.

5 stars for the price, objectively 3.5
I replaced the $10-or-less 3 headed piezo sold under many different names on Amazon with this, and I'm very happy to have done so. Does not sound quite as nice as the Journey I have in a couple other guitars, but for half the price it is quite nice. Much, much nicer than the the $10 one it replaced. Pluses- -20 mm diameter is the same size as the journey. Significantly smaller and easier to place than the $10 ones. -Decent neutral sound. -included blue tack to help you figure out where to put things, and thin (non padded) 2 sided tape for install (I used gel super glue) -Nifty leather jack holder if you want to top-mount - comically incoherent instructions - nice assortment of included wire management clips Cons- -Lower output than either the journey or generic $10 jobbie, a buffer/preamp is recommended -No 2.5 mm jack on the output jack, it's soldered in place, which makes install slightly more difficult. Definitely not a big deal

Sounds incredible, but the manual is useless
I’m a full time audio engineer and have some high standards with this type of purchase, but I needed something affordable and in a pinch. I ordered this pickup with the Palmer pocket acoustic amp for a quick tour coming up with an indie artist. Yesterday I installed in it my Gibson and I’m really quite impressed at the quality and balance of the sound through the preamp. Quick install once I got around the useless manual, and the end result was just a no fuss, clean sounding passive system ready to hit a good preamp. Note, I’m giving 4 stars because the installation instructions were absolutely useless, basically just gibberish. I had to phone a friend to sort out the installation. Donner, if you see my review, get in touch and I’ll help you out. My undergrad degree was in English with an emphasis on professional writing for business.

Works, some install issues, but it's fine.
I was skeptical on this one. Some reviews not happy with the product, and Amazon even flagged it as "frequent return" so I got a "renewed" one for cheaper and took a chance. I did some testing before mounting it in the guitar to make sure it worked, holding it next to vibrating strings before install. Seemed to pick up and make a signal, so I went to installing it. It had very poorly worded "chinglish" instructions in the package, so basically those went in the bonfire. It did require drilling a hole where the strap button lives, and the jack retainer nut on the pickup jack becomes the new strap button. I put this on my beater acoustic guitar at the cabin, so I didn't mind some hole drilling. I used a 1/2" wood/metal bit and the jack fit well in that size hole. I think the instructions said 12mm hole. No one has a 12mm bit at their cabin by the way.... 1/2"= 13mm = close enough. It is NOT a powered pickup, so it's signal is "lower" but I just turned up the gain on the amp a little and it works fine. I had to install it twice actually. The first time, I didn't adjust the inner nut enough to allow the jack to stick out of the guitar enough, so it was not making electrical contact initially when plugged in. Disassemble and re-adjust and try again and it worked fine. Make sure the pickup jack sticks out far enough on install, at least as far out from the guitar as the strap button retainer is thick, maybe a touch more and you won't have this problem. After drilling the hole, I found it easiest to run the patch cord from the amp into the freshly drilled hole and out the sound hole of the guitar, then plug the cord into the jack on the new pickup, then pull the whole package into the guitar and the cord out the drilled hole while all plugged together. Then, disconnect the cord to the amp, and then carefully attach the strap button/jack retainer and tighten to secure. Installing the pickup itself in the sound hole after that is self explanatory and only needs a Phillips screwdriver. It did come with some sticky cable retainers which I stuck to the inside of the guitar to hold the cabling inside and prevent rattles. I did all this WITHOUT removing the strings by the way, as I did not have an extra set to put back on at the cabin. This would all be infinitely easier with the strings removed but is possible without removing the strings. Using it plugged in I was impressed. It's not as "good" as some easier to install soundhole pickups I have, but overall it does what it's designed to do and is reasonably well designed and priced. Volume and tone knobs work, and can be accessed between songs if needed, but are not easy to adjust in the midst of a song. Overall, I'd probably consider buying it again for a similar guitar need, especially now that I figured out how to get it in there properly. Hope this helps someone.
