FatipLarge Safety Nickel Plated - 80 gr.

This razor gives me one of the best shaves. I have very thick hair and my skin is sensitive. The great thing is that my shave time has reduced dramatically. My regularly razor prior to this one was a Merkur Long Handle. I chose this razor as a replacement because I was not happy with the Merkur's pencil like handle (however long). But also found the shaving soap 'clogging' up in the closed comb design of the Merkur.The noticeable difference to other shavers is the face plate is rather small and exposes the blade quite substantially. This makes the razor look more aggressive with a blade mounted, which concerned me initially. So, I decided to use a much duller blade then my regular Feathers, which I used in the Merkur. I fitted the Persona (USA made) in this razor and the shave was brilliant. The shave was close and comfortable.I have not tried Feathers in this razor yet, but I think it will be way too sharp for it. I'll keep the Feathers for 2-3 day growths and use it exclusively on the Merkur closed combed razor.This shaver is aggressive, but with a dull blade it works well. Plus the shaving time is dramatically reduced... and for that reason it will be my normal everyday razor from now on.And why did I give 4 stars, not 5? Well, the blade needs to be aligned carefully when being replaced. There's a lot of play when the blade is mounted on the 3-pins, so I have to hold it down and align to the plate when I am screwing tight. This never happened with the high quality German made Merkur, even with 3 different blade brands.In hindsight, I wish I had purchased a high quality Muhle open combed razor instead. But it was more expensive, and I just wanted to try out an open combed razor first without risking too much money. Plus the reviews for this razor were all good. The adjustment of the blade is a minor problem... for now.UPDATE 04 DEC 2014:I tried Feather blades in this razor and it didn't butcher my face as I had initially thought. In fact it was a little more comfortable than when used on the Merkur Long Handle razor.I think the best way to describe the Fatip Grande razor is that it will bring out the best in any blade. I am even perplexed as to why ALL double edged razors aren't open combed like this one... this razor is forgiving enough to be suitable for even beginners.One minor problem that has appeared is the coating on the face plate is peeling. It is very small, and doesn't affect my shave, but it's noticeable and makes me wonder if more will appear over the life of the razor. I've only had this one for 4-weeks! This again reinforces my thoughts that it's not as well made other higher quality razors.UPDATE 27 MAY 2015:After many months of use I have now tried 3 different blades with this razor: Feather, Derby and Personna (USA made). The Derby's were too dull to slice through my thick beard. I had to push down harder to achieve the same efficiency, which of course made my face more raw. The Feathers were sharper to the point they sliced through minor bumps on my face with the exposed blade. The Personna's were just right. Not only is my shave fast, but it's also SO comfortable afterwards. I actually look forward to shaving in the morning! These blades are a little narrower, which is an ideal fit for the Fatip Grande which exposes the blade more. I purchased this razor as a replacement for my RazoRock Jaws which just takes too much fiddling to get the blade aligned in and also as an alternative to a vintage Gillette NEW OC which are getting too expensive and often have issues.The Fatip Grande shaves perfectly and is everything I was hoping for! There is a little wiggle room in the blade but it aligns easily and I have no problems at all with that part. The reason I'm giving this 3 stars instead of 5 is the absolutely horrible plating! If this were a Merkur or any of the zamak metal razors it would already be returned. However, since it is made from Brass AND I did manage to get one that aligns the blade well I'm hoping I can contact the Fatip manufacturer {Pafaro I believe} and just get a replacement cap. If not I may return it or just let the rest of the nickel plate fall off and use it as a brass razor.The handle also has poor plating issues but instead of flaking off there were a couple of sharp needle like protrusions of chrome. I rolled these off on a piece of marble so it works fine now.Plating issues aside this razor really does give a wonderful shave. It's on the more aggressive side but wonderfully smooth. I feel it is close to but definitely more aggressive than a vintage Gillette NEW OC razor and on par with RazoRock Jaws. It may actually be more aggressive than the Jaws BUT it is smoother so it's difficult to tell. Incidentally the Jaws handle can work with the Fatip Grande but the Grande handle does not fit the Jaws. Also blades appear to have a notably shorter life in the Fatip ... not a deal breaker and possibly I just need more experience with it but it's something to consider so expect one or two fewer shaves per blade.For ~$25 this could be an excellent razor though it's a bit of a lottery with QC. If Fatip/Pafaro offered an ALL Brass option that would be the best option of all.IMAGES: I've had the Fatip Grande for less than 2 weeks and the photos were taken a week ago after the 3rd shave. These images have not been retouched but the microscope photos are only 640x480. The flaking is occurring only on the top cap with a large flake falling off the top surface and all along the edge where the cap touches the razor blade.

I have been using this razor for over a week now. Absolutely love it. I'm coming from a Parker 26C that the tip broke off in the handle (cant complain, been using it for almost 4 years now) and wanted a more aggressive razor. This is definitely a more aggressive razor. If you're new to wet shaving i would not suggest this razor. I've been wet shaving for over 5 years now. This is a really good razor if your technique is good. I see people posting about getting nicks and cuts with this. Blades and shave soap play a big factor in this. I use Gentleman Jons Glycerin Soap and use Feather Blades. Not a single cut or nick with that combo. I used Colonel Conks Amber with this razor once and got a couple of weepers. So with a good technique and blade/soap combo this a great razor for the price. Would definitely recommend to seasoned wet shavers

PRO:la testa ha una buona curvatura, la finitura nichelata ha una leggera sgranatura vicino la filettatura (non a vista) e i componenti non sembrano avere difetti di accoppiamento. La lama si posiziona bene e risulta ben allineata e simmetrica. La rasatura con lamette nuove (superstainless) è profonda e scorrevole e il pettine si pulisce sotto un filo d'acqua corrente senza impastarsi anche con il prebarba applicato prima dell'insaponatura del volto. Bilanciamento e lunghezza del manico buoni. Anche di fretta ha una buona guardia/pettine di sicurezza, difficilmente ci si può fare male pur essendo un rasoio a pettine aperto: la lametta poggia quasi direttamente sul pettine.CONTRO:Il terminale del manico (lato impugnatura) presenta la finitura zigrinata con spigoli vivi, risultando sgradevole al tatto, impigliandosi tra l'altro all'asciugamani, ho duvuto limare le microimperfezioni stando attendo a non compromettere la nichelatura. Il mio esemplare presenta un leggero colpo sulla testa dovuto probabilmente a caduta in fase di produzione dai nastri ai cesti di raccolta. La curvatura del pettine risulta poco accomodante per intercettare i peli da radere al collo: si è manifestata una leggera irritazione dovuta ai passaggi effettuati, ed essendo un open comb necessariamente la pelle ne ha risentito.CONCLUSIONI:Un rasoio a mio parere Senza infamia e senza lode, che potrebbe essere migliorato con piccoli investimenti in progettazione e produzione pur lasciando il nucleo storico della Fatip. Non mi sento di consigliarne l'acquisto, tranne nel caso in cui si voglia provarlo ed aggiungerlo alla propria "strumentazione" di rasoi di sicurezza.CONSIGLIO tuttavia il FATIP TESTINA GENTILE (sempre made in Italy) ben progettato e ben bilanciato, accoppiando lamette di buona qualità (kai, feather, personna, ma anche le classiche astra verdi). Il Fatip testina gentile ha comunque una particolarità, pur avendo un lieve difetto di asimmetria (dovuta ad eccessivo gioco dei fori di armatura) per la centratura della lametta sulla testa, permette di sfruttare ciò che in prima analisi appare un difetto, in vantaggio: è possibile modulare (parlo di decimi di millimetro) la sporgenza del filo della lama per una perfetta rasatura adattata ai propri lineamenti del volto ed alla propria barba.Consegna e imballaggio ottimi.

Dopo un paio di mesi di DE89 ho voluto provare un open comb, ed ho deciso di prendere questo Fatip. Ho dovuto fare qualche prova per capire come far digerire alla mia pelle il cambio di rasoio, ma una volta entrato a regime non posso più farne a meno. Tra qualche mese valuterò l'acquisto di un Muhle R41, ma per ora mi godo il mio Fatip. Consigliatissimo!

Mi sento in dovere di dover recensire un prodotto del genere, davvero spettacolare, problemi zero e rasature profonde. La finitura è altrettanto perfetta.

Dopo una buona esperienza con rasoi di sicurezza "closed comb", volevo togliermi la curiosità di provare il mio primo "open comb". E ho deciso di acquistarne uno italiano, molto conosciuto anche all'estero. La differenza tra "open comb" e "closed comb" sta nel pettine, che in questo caso è "aperto" e mette il profilo della lama più a contatto con la pelle. Ecco perchè questo tipo di rasoio, come il famoso cugino tedesco Muhle R41, è considerato più aggressivo e diretto di un "closed comb" (ad esempio di un Edwin Jagger DE89).Io ho scelto questo, la versione "Grande" con finitura nichelata, forse la più classica. Il manico offre un buon grip, soprattutto nella parte finale zigrinata e decisamente antiscivolo.La nota negativa è che, come altri hanno già evidenziato, anche nel mio caso ho riscontrato una scarsa precisione nelle tolleranze della testa. Questo comporta un gioco abbastanza importante del coprilama e della lama stessa che, se non prestiamo attenzione, può essere montata in modo sbagliato. Ho provato a serrare il manico, tenendo volutamente la lama storta al massimo del gioco possibile, e da un lato quasi scompare sotto il coprilama, mentre dal lato opposto risulta molto esposta. Ma in verità non è un problema drammatico, è sufficiente montarlo guardando bene che la posizione della lama sia corretta e simmetrica. Dopodichè, come nel claim riportato sulla confezione, offre delle belle emozioni.Il rasoio è realizzato in ottone, per quanto mi riguarda mi è sembrato ben bilanciato. Il manico non è pieno ma comunque del giusto peso.Devo dire che, nonostante la mia barba dura abbinata a una pelle molto sensibile, non ho avuto problemi di tagli o irritazioni, e la sbarbata è risultata più profonda del solito. Anche se mi sentivo leggermente in soggezione alla mia prima rasatura con un "pettine aperto", devo dire che è filato tutto liscio, nel vero senso della parola. Certamente è necessario assecondare il rasoio, con mano leggera, badando bene a non esercitare pressione su di esso. Non avevo ancora mai usato questo tipo di rasoi essendomi sempre fornito dei classici usa e getta ma devo dire che la rasatura risulta molto piu' piacevole e profonda. Da maneggiare con attenzione e soprattutto scegliere, per i principianti come me, delle lamette '' tenere''. Forse avrei preferito un modello con manico piu' lungo ma credo sia solo questione di abitudine.
