Great Product
I just installed these this weekend. The product is well designed and the instructions are reasonably clear. Here are a few things you need to know that are not covered in the instructions.- you absolutely need to have a 90 degree drill. A regular drill will not work.- when installing the rivet nuts, go by turns and feel, not by torque. I made that mistake on the first one. I never hit the torque spec.- drill and rivet the linkages before installing the motors. There is no reason to wait until the last step.- I had zero clearance issues with the pinch welds and the boards. I don't understand why others are having problems. Not saying they are lying, but something must be installed wrong. If I had to guess, I would say you're not bending the tabs back that is called for in step 12. That would leave the brackets at the wrong angle.- there was a bracket to relocate the electrical junction under the driver door, but the instructions did not cover this. Others have commented on this. I'm telling you now what the bracket is for. If you don't use it, the motor on the driver side will not install properly.- there is no nut for the ground cable, and the cable end is too small to mount it anywhere else. You need a 6mm nut or so. Not sure of the exact size.- ask me if you need advice. I could do it very quickly now that it's fresh in my mind. All in all, a well thought out product and you will LOVE how it looks and works.-----------------------------------------------------------Update January 24, 2016- I have now used the truck during the blizzard of 2016. The boards work perfectly, they don't collect snow sufficiently to hinder them, and they stop if they hit a solid obstacle, like a chunk of hard snow. Love them!-----------------------------------------------------------Update June 21, 2022Have had these for 7 years now. They have worked without fail. Great product.

Plug-n-play is a easy install
Steps look great 👍 and were easy to install. Best part is I don't have to hear my short wife complaining about getting in and out of my truck anymore.

Expensive but so worth it
Absolutely love these steps, the truck has a nice clean look with them retracted. They extend lower than fixed steps. It is 28" from the ground to the floor of my cab, the top of the extended steps are 13 1/2" above the ground They do require some tools that aren't as common for installation. I needed a right angle air drill to drill the rivet holes for the motor idler brackets. You need a pop rivet tool capable of setting 3/16" pop rivets, manual is fine. Seems like a common installation problem is the steps initially hanging up on the pinch welds and jamming when first actuated. I altered the order of installation and installed the steps before installing the motors on the motor idlers. This allowed me to check the clearance by raising them by hand. At first just the end caps hung up on the pinch welds. After jumping up and down on the steps at each bracket location (an approved procedure), they had plenty of clearance. Then I installed the motors and all worked well.

Electrical lasted on 6 months...warranty refused
After all of my research showing all of the problems with AMP Research Steps, I still decided to go with them. I previously installed them on my truck and my dad's. I sold that truck and his are still going strong. I was under the impression that I'd have the peace of mind due to the warranty. Boy was I wrong...I bought these for almost $1800 after taxes on May 19, and today is 6 months later. I've been dealing with Customer Service for a few days and it was a couple of days after I received these that I was able to put them on. THE ELECTRICAL LASTED LESS THAN 6 MONTHS! The wiring harness in the engine bay melted into the controller. It was the plug and play system. It's pretty difficult to mess up plugging in a wire harness to a controller. Nothing else is wrong with the truck's electronics. Hmm...seems like a defective product, let's see what customer service does for warranty's sake. Nothing. No seriously. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! I was told "it look like something caused this system to short out." LOL, yeah no joke. I could smell it and had a hell of a time removing it from the engine bay when I decided to take pictures halfway through which was my first mistake. "On the black and red power wires you can see were they melted, due to something shorting out the system." Mind you, this is a stock truck and everything else is fine. How is this not a defective item? There was no abuse to the steps by way of accident, or any road hazards. There was no modification to the system. There was no improper installation unless the instructions were wrong. There was damage to the system by defect, and all I get is a sucks to suck.I'm confused...Either way, don't waste your money unless you want to drop an additional $200 for a wiring harness and $100+ for a controller. What an absolute garbage purchase for almost 2 grand.I would not recommend these unless you like dumping money into an electrical fire and having one step up and one step down. "It's a vibe." Good luck getting a warranty.

Awesome product. Difficult install
Not easy to install but looks and works awesome once it’s dialed in.One hint I would give is put the motor on last.Mount the boards and get them dialed in first by moving them in and out manually to make sure it clears the pinchweld, then tighten everything down and lastly put on the motor. I had them in slightly misaligned and they hit the pinchweld on the way up marring them a bit.

Not great in cold temps
One step won’t fully retract since the winter. Not overly impressed as I reached out to AMP with the issue twice and they never acknowledged me. Would not recommend.
