Company command: the bottom line

I am currently leaving a command and moving cross country to assume company command. I bought this book to help prepare my mindset, thinking I may finish it and have a few good mental notes to soak in. I was wrong. I have found golden nuggets on each and every page that I can’t believe other commanders I have worked with didn’t know about. This book is a cheat sheet to success as a company commander; all the things it describes in here are what I’ve already seen i my own company commander or wish he had implemented. I’m a Marine Corps Officer, and think this book transitions with no gap in information (except maybe referencing AR vs. MCO) between Army and Marine Corps company commander.

This book was required reading for all senior leadership in our Battalion years ago and is extremely useful to both new First Sergeants and Commanders. It was also recommended reading by the Sergeants Major Academy for all First Sergeant Course attendees. I gave this to my daughter when she was promoted and became a Battery (Company) Commander. I have also given this to every new commander/first sergeant I have met or known for over twenty years now and will continue to do so as long as it is available (no longer readily available at AAFES clothing sales stores).

I like this version the best. I buy them for CPT's or 1LTs taking command

This book is great for a first time commander but it is a little dated so be sure to check the military references before quoting the book.

I have not read the book as it was ordered for the office staff. They feel that it was a good addition for the staff library.

No nonsense, easy to read perspective on command. I only wish I would have read this earlier in my career.

Arrived on time. Great officer must read. I would buy again and will recommend to a friend.

Highly recommend this book to all young Officers to get them start thinking about Command. This is a good maintenance book for leaders because it gives you a starting point o different aspects of military leadership.
