Is the GS308E a managed switch?

Yes. You can set up VLANs and all the goodies. It has a web interface and there is a Windows application to do some settings too. It is a perfect switch for my homelab at the moment.

I already have a switch connected to my gig BT router. can I connect multiple of these to split within splits?

Indeed, you can daisy chained or cascade switches. However, the best practice would be up to 2-3 switches daisy chained. It is because the more switch that you daisy chain will add latency on the network. If you have any questions, you can also check out our community NETGEAR Best regards, NETGEAR Amazon UK

I can`t register my netgear gs305e COD as it is in use with another customer

We suggest you contact NETGEAR customer support to request the registration of your switch NETGEAR GS305E to be transferred to you. However, warranty and technical support are for the original purchaser only and are not transferable. Can this device be used without installing the Netgear Insight App, or is the app a requirement?

I bought the 5 port version of this device and installed the Netgear ProSAFE Plus Utility, but have never used it. The device is self-contained and, once switched on, works straight out of the box, i.e. nothing else is needed. I would suggest that you examine the reason for purchasing this item and install the required utility, possibly reaching out to Netgear's help desk and/or User Forum for indepth help.
