If you are determined to torture yourself, then this is the business. Seriously, as long as you are working strictly under a physiotherapists instruction, this home cervical traction device brings good relief from neck problems such as arthritis in the cervical vertebrae and processes. The water bag couterweight is a good idea for being able to adjust the traction weight/force to any value, but in practice it is a hassle. We have substituted it for one of my sons small weight training barbells :). If you are uncertain what weight or length of treatment to use you should really speak to a medical professional, but I am using the same as the big machine my physio used on me, which is 5kg (11 lbs). Start at 3 minutes and build up to 7, every couple of days or even every day. I do my prescribed neck exercises while under traction. Make sure you adjust the harness correctly, and move your chair toward or away from the door so the cord is vertical. It has brought great relief from arthritic pain and I highly recommend it.

I hurt my neck in a fall and it needed regular light traction each day to help it heel. The PT department after some training and advise lent me one of these to use at home to save me a 25 mile round trip each day. The unit is sturdy and works well by applying traction to the neck. It attaches to a door and comes with all the parts necessary to do home traction to the neck. One word of warning, only use this if you have been shown how by a PT department. They will tell you what weight of water to use and how long to do it for. You will need another person to help you as well. This is designed to give gentle traction so don't exceed the weights or times given to you. If used correctly it does the job well saves using hospital time. I am glad the PT department introduced me to it as I have now made a full recovery and saved more than it cost in travelling. A very good item.

I'll explain my review. I had a similar unit about 10 years ago and buying this one I thought I would be getting the same product but I was wrong. I'll simply list the things wrong:1) Rope attachment - REALLY BAD. Stop being cheap and provide a hook so you can hook the water filled weight on easily and not have to place everything on a chair and tie up each time. Cheap cutback MASSIVE annoyance.2) The sling that goes around your head has been altered and now is rubbish. Very difficult not to choke yourself with because the size of it is now MASSIVE, too big for the average person and hence annoying to get right.3) The attachment to the door only fits doors less than 3 5/8 inch! ( Had to modify this version so it would fit on my door)I have used the previous version by other manufacturer (I think?) so have vast experience of this traction design. I can only suggest is to find another version of it or going to a DIY store and buy a hook. But the sling attachment is poor so you may even struggle on using this also.The manufacturers got this version wrong. The actual design is a good one and better than most of other units out there.

I have suffered with my neck for many years and it was exacerbated by whip lash .As I have nerve damage the traction for the cervical vertebra really helps.It is not something offered at the physio for me so having a traction unit at home means I can use it a few times a week and get the relief I need as I have osteo arthritus in my spine.I will definitely get an S hook to hang the bag and attach to the cord.Wish I had bought one sooner.

unit arrived ok but the plug piece was not totally attached to the water bag ,i managed to glue it to the bag ,how long it will last i dont know ,also the velcro straps on the headpiece were different from those shown in the instruction booklet ,the reason i did not return it is my wife is feeling the benifit from using it and did not want to be without it

TORTURE - ONLY USED TWICE

head strap fiddley to put on without help because of velcro straps , water bag even when full did not put enough pressure to make any difference to neck but would pull velcro apart on head strap , if i was to buy one again i would look at the more expensive ratchet system with no water bag

Bought this for a friend. After a while the filler neck detached from the bag. Pattersons give a twelve month warranty but buying through Amazon you only get a 30 day return window. Solution is don't but through Amazon, but note the quality is not great.
