A lot of the reviewers here don't know how to use hair pins, or thought they were bobby pins.Hair pins are open ended. You slide it in a little, then turn and slide it the other direction. They are non-damaging, unlike bobby pins which rub against your hair, causing damage. Hair pins are not for certain bobby pin uses- eg, they won't work for holding rollers or wrap sets, and if you are looking for something to use essentially as a barrette (eg. holding back a piece of hair near your face), you will probably want bobby pins. They are great for buns and updos and are probably best for hair that is shoulder length or longer.These are sturdy and smooth, and the balls rarely fall off. However, the black coating does wear off with time, but this doesn't affect the performance. These are much better than other hair pins I've tried, and are super cheap as well.

These are the best bobby pins out there ! Unlike the basic ones you buy in store, these hold forever! I have pretty thick hair and have used the basic bobby pins you get at like target and they didn’t hold for nearly as long as these do ! I was so amazed at the end of my work shift that these had stayed firmly in place, and they’re at a great price point for the quality ! The different sizes is very convenient for the different hair amount you are trying to hold, and they’re very sturdy ! I’ve used the exact same bobby pin about 5 times already and by now, other bobby pins would have got chipped already or not stretched back into place but these are perfectly in tact ! IN LOVE, definitely buy these over any other bobby pins, they are 110% worth it <3

My daughter is in dance and let me just tell you getting a perfect bun for competitions without fear a pin will come flying out is extremely important! I got these and was amazed at how just a few of these would hold it securely where as other bun pins were flimsy and just didn’t seem to hold as well. My only complaint is I wish they had these in brown and didn’t really need the smaller ones. I will for now on use these for updos for dance competitions!! She has very long hair and use these with the donuts.

People who give these pins one star because they are not bobby pins need to learn a little bit of common sense. These are hair pins, and they are U shaped for a reason. Think of them like staples for your updo. To use them, you angle the pin slightly away from your bun, scoop a little bit of hair, and then push them all the way into the bun. I've attached a video to demonstrate. Using several pins around the bun or updo (I usually use three or four) overlaps the pins and gives a comfortable but sturdy hold that lasts all day.I have used Diane brand pins for almost a decade with everything from chin length to middle of my back length hair and highly recommend them. The small pins are good for short hair or small buns, and the long pins work for even very long thick hair. Diane pins are studier and smoother than any other brand I've used, which means they won't distort or snag your hair. The only reason I give them 4 stars instead of 5 is because occasionally (rarely) one of the ball tips with fall off. Other than that I love these pins.

I use hair pins every day and I love these pins. The negative reviews are from people who didn't bother to pay attention to what they bought and assumed they were getting BOBBY PINS, which is a completely different thing with a completely different purpose. These are U-shaped hair pins, which are used for buns and updos.I love the size assortment, because I can use the two longer sizes to pin up my natural hair, while the small ones work great for my daughter's hair or to pin a wig down. I have long hair (mid back) and I can put my hair in a bun with just 2-3 of the long pins. The best part about these pins is that the ball ends are very smooth, and do not catch in the hair the way some cheap pins do. They are also fairly sturdy and hold their shape very well. I will order several more packs because it is an unbeatable value.EDIT: When I first wrote the review I had only used the pins once. Since writing the review I have discovered that these pins can only be used once or twice before all of the black coating flakes off. I still haven't had issues with the ball ends snagging hair, and for the low price I certainly didn't expect a durable, premium product, so I'm still giving three stars. I use these daily to put my hair in a bun that I wear all day and even sleep in. They are very comfortable, and if I've positioned them just right I can't even feel them.

I bought these by accident but I am so glad I did. I have long, thin hair and regular bobby pins don't always hold it in place and then I have to redo them all the time. With these hair pins I can tuck any wisp of hair away. It's great for pinning my bangs back when I have a ponytail. And when I do a bun, I can tuck in any shorter bits really easily without affecting the overall shape.I've never used hair pins before but I am converted. they really are non damaging. I find them less painful than any other method of barrette or slide because these pins distribute the weight over a wider section of my scalp. I also feel like I could pull off a really soft elegant updo with these pins and that it would actually last.How to use.... I take a piece of hair, twist it if I want to and then place the section between the pins. I place it where I want it to go and slide the pin in sideways. Another way to do it is by flipping it over completely and securing it back into the original section of hair - this creates additional volume and poof, something I need... Because they don't disturb the rest of the hair there's no need to worry that they will cause other curls of hair to poke out. They're so easy to use I can refresh my hair do without a mirror.My only qualm is, i wish they were available in brown. The pins are pretty much invisible once you slide them in but still, i couldn't find a brown version and that would work better with my hair colour.

These can't even last a couple hours of use; forget a whole workday!Why they are GARBAGE:•The ends fall off every time, which means pulling your hair and scraping your scalp if you need to reposition one!•Almost all of the paint falls off the 1st day!•Many are misshapen & don't ever work work right from the start!*********The most annoying part is that THEY KNOW THEIR PRODUCT SUCKS because they have any & all return/refund/replace options TURNED OFF!*********Maybe I just got a bad pack, but I wouldn't know that because they aren't even willing to replace this $5 item, to give me the chance to form a better opinion about them. Instead they've saved themselves a few bucks or even cents of their production cost and lost the possibility of a repeat customer plus created an advocate for informing others about how they are the LOWEST QUALITY hair accessories I've encountered lately!Do NOT waste YOUR money ON this CRAP!PERSONALLY, I WILL NEVER BUY ANY DIANE PRODUCTS EVER AGAIN and MAKE SURE OTHERS KNOW TO AVOID THEM!!!

The most important thing to note here is that these are NOT bobby pins and do not claim to be. I found most, if not all of the negative reviews were ignorant to this fact. These are U pins and are great for securing a bun or any updo into place. They are also good for wig work. This pack is a great value and they seem to be quite high quality! Beware of misinformed reviews and make sure you know what you're buying!

I love that this came with different size options - Making it able to work with many different hair types.
