Grillin' Pro 3001

I've always wanted a Weber but didn't want to spend $400+. So even though I had not heard of Char Griller the deal on Amazon Prime Day was too good to pass up and my old grill was dying before my eyes so I took a gamble since all the reviews were good. It shipped and arrived as expected. Assembly: Ok, assembly was a pain. I used to work at a furniture warehouse and I actually LOVE putting IKEA stuff together so I wasn't worried about assembly at all. The first problem came when the parts packet had opened during shipping. There were 33 little washers strewn all over the box. I didn't find the 33rd washer until two hours into my assembly but eventually did find them all. That was an accomplishment! Other than that assembly was about as expected. It took me about 4 hours sweating in my porch. I was able to do it by myself even though it says two people "required" and I only stripped out one screw. Attached the heavy bottom grill case to the assembled frame was the hardest part (and where I stripped the screw) but there are five other screws so I'm not at all worried about it. It wasn't super hard, just took longer than expected. The box it fit in was a lot smaller than expected as well! Grilling: I LOVE this thing. It gets hot and fast. When I have all three burners lit and turned down to low it stays 400 degrees with the lid down. Turn them up to less than medium and it jumps up to 500 or more. The first time I used it I fried my brats and dogs compared to my old crappy grill. It feels very sturdy, has a large grill surface that is flush with the side shelves (unlike my old one) and a large area on the top warming shelf. My young daughters don't like any "black stuff" on their hot dogs so I cook theirs solely on the warming shelf and they cook perfect without burning. So far I've only made brats and old fashioned wienies, checking kabobs and grilled lettuce (seriously, my wife loves grilled romaine soaked in olive oil, it's surprisingly good!) Now that I know to keep the heat on low so I don't fry my foods I'm loving this thing, it heats up fast and cooks great. Anyone know what I would ever use the side burner for? I can't imagine ever using it. Construction: As I said it feels study and is definitely heavy duty. The top is heavy, the shelves are nice. I even like the two exhaust tubes on the top, I thought that would keep it from holding heat but they have no effect and look cool smoking when you got a good grill on. I like to turn the gas off on the propane after every use and it's kind of a pain to reach (you can see a bar in the picture, well, that bar is right in the way of the top of the propane tank) but other than that it is very good. Overall: I'm very happy with this grill especially for the price! Go ahead and get one, you'll love it!

Our old grill was getting long in the tooth! It never heated hot enough and the side burner was weak at the best. The smaller grill heats up fast and is able to hold the temperature. The side burner also heats up fast and actually varies the heat by adjusting the control knob. I have used it a dozen times and everything comes out perfect. My old grill (with a similar name) was junk compared to this one. Because the burners are so efficient, I am still cooking on the partially filled bottle of gas I started with. I if had to say something negative, I suppose the fact that the price went from $200 to $300 in one year. But overall I am sold on this grill UPDATE: I have had this grill 6 months now and I am still satisfied, BUT, a couple of things I have noticed. The side burner started sooting up and not putting out the heat. This usually means a blocked intake tube. Sure enough, an insect had crawled into the tube and spent the rest of his life there! Disassembly was quick. I removed the burner, cleaned out the tube and had it back working in 20 minutes. I think the burner tube air intake needs a small screen to prevent this from happening. The screws I had to remove might not be so easy to take out after a couple of years of use. The second item of interest is the fit of the cast grills on the housing. I had the middle grill fall out several times when I was cleaning it. I don't know if the cast grills were made short or the housing was made a bit too big. I "fixed" this by using a long clamp and squeezing the two housing sides together. Now, the cast grills have a 1/4 inch ledge to rest on instead of 1/16!! Unless the metal housing goes back to its original shape. I cook on this grill at least twice a week and am very happy with the burner heat output and the small amount of propane they use. Because they are so hot I always cook on a low setting or a higher setting for a shorter amount of time.

This grill is a definite 5 star in it's category. It is built extremely well. For a better built grill you will have to spend $500 and up. After acquiring a graveyard of gas grills over the past few years I really paid attention on this one. My last was a stainless steel Brinkmann, it looked very nice and appeared to be great, but was total junk and did not make it through the second year. The Char-Griller has a heavy lid, which is a must, a sturdy enough frame, an adequate cooking area for most things. The openness around the cook top really helps you to utilize every square inch of cooking space. Electronic ignition for each of the 3 burners. The burners are the good stainless steel and not the junk like most of your Wal-Mart, Home Depot, etc grills. If you look at those they will say stainless steel, but they are a very low grade, super thin version on most. One thing I like is that if you do need to change a burner there are no expensive "extra" parts like crossover bars and such. The assembly directions are a little confusing, but are enough to get you through it. Overall, I was looking for a durable grill that would last me more than a year and I am pretty sure this one is made to last several years. It is a simple model that has some design quirks, but the overall feel of the grill superior to my last 3 or 4. Update 4/24/2015 Still going strong. Electronic start still works perfect on all 3 burners. Grates, shields, burners all holding up great. Grill body is still perfect and durable. Best grill I have owned ever! Update: Lasted right at 4 years. The back and bottom rusted out and it is toast. Burners and grates lasted until the end. For the money this is the best grill I have had and it out lasted others by a long shot. This grill was kept under a covered porch it's entire life. I will most likely get another Char-Griller grill to replace it.

This arrives as a smaller-than-expected box, extremely well-packed, double-layered box. The box is extremely heavy and even with two people requires some effort to slide/roll the box from the front porch to inside to unpack and assemble. Upon opening the two boxes (double-layered), I first noticed how well packaged everything was. Conveniently the installation manual is right on the top. The parts themselves are not labeled but in nearly all cases the part was identifiable from pictures in the installation manual. The second thing I noticed was the the parts needed for Step #1 in the installation manual were literally packaged underneath everything at the bottom of the box. It's hard to knock a star off for something like this, considering how well packaged the entire product was. But it sure was a pain to have to pull all 88 pounds worth of parts out of the box, just to pull out the two pieces at the bottom for step 1. I'd consider myself fairly handy and good with instructions. I only made one small mistake on step #1 where I didn't ensure the "Holes on Leg Cross Bars" were facing inward. Four unscrews later, it was fixed. Oddly, I did get about halfway through the install and I ran out of 1/4" lock washers. The package said there were supposed to be 33 of these. Unlike other reviewers my parts container was still intact and definitely was not punctured prior to me starting assembly. I was super-careful not to lose any screws or washers and I double checked everywhere I installed them on to make sure I didn't accidentally double them up. According to the remaining installation steps, I was supposed to have 12 more of these lock washers. Searching lock washer through the reviews here, it seems missing 1/4" lock washers is a common theme and most people write it off as them making a mistake and losing some. I'm confident these were missing and I didn't lose any. Fortunately, these are dirt cheap and easily painted with high-temp paint. But for a $200 grill you would expect all the parts needed for assembly to be included consistently. The other thing is the wording on the package of screws to tell you the name of each item (1/4-20X1/2" Bolt) doesn't line up with the installation instructions("Hex Bolt"). Almost like they outsourced to another company to provide the screws and they didn't quite get the names right. But with a little studying of the manual it's not difficult to figure out which screw/part the instructions is referring to. I did find the wheels to be abysmally low quality for such a great grill. I also own a Char-Griller smoker for about 8 years, and can tell you the wheels are about as low quality as it gets. Consider that my smoker uses the exact same wheels and developed a "flat tire" after just a couple years of outdoor cement patio use. Best guess is they melted/warped in the Florida sun. The thought of me having to change the wheel on an 88lb grill sent me to my local farm/tractor supply brick & mortar with the provided axle and wheel to find another wheel. I found that the air-filled wheels all were all consistently across brands about 1/4" taller than the original wheel (too tall). But I found hard/heavy 8" plastic wheels (not air filled) were only about 1/8" shorter, which is a closer fit. I also noticed that the axle hole on these was slightly larger on the new wheels than the originals, which if corrected would help reduce that 1/8" difference. The easiest fix I found for this was simply to wrap some duct tape around the axle a few times before sliding the new wheels on. The new wheels will never go flat as they are not hollow like the originals, and the total cost for the upgrade is about $20. The new wheels feel great moving it around and look great too. They will surely be long-lasting, just like the grill. https://smile.amazon.com/Arnold-490-322-0003-8-Inch-Plastic-Wheel/dp/B000VOARV2 Unlike many previous grills I've owned, where I saw shotty or cheap manufacturing leaving me feeling like the money I paid wasn't worth the product I received.. this grill feels like it is well made (and assembled) and is sturdy and feels like it is worth the $200, if not maybe a little more. The parts look like if I take care of them, I'll see many years of service out of this grill. For the extra $20, I would strongly recommend upgrading the wheels. It is truly the only "cheap" component. I did buy a couple other items to go with my new grill: Magnetic Grill Lights (super bright!): https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IJ9R9KM Griddle: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B000WNLFK4 I specifically bought the griddle to try and reduce the amount of gunk that will fall down into my grill and dirty it up (and reduce its life). I'll come back and update this after some time of using the grill. So far, I'm a happy camper and would recommend purchase. Just make sure you also are ready to replace the black high-temp painted 1/4" lock washers that will be missing, and be prepared to consider either replacing the wheels later or save yourself the headache and just order a couple wheels and some duct tape along with the purchase of your grill.

This is a great gasser, no doubt about it. At the time I'm writing this review, the price seems to have rocketed over $300. I bought it for less than $200, so your mileage may vary, but it is a fine grill that gets hotter than the center of the sun. If you're looking for an excellent, in depth review of this grill check out the Amazingribs.com review of the Char-Griller Grilling Pro, they get into the nitty gritty with it. My old gasser was a four burner and had the heat output of someone lighting a match several yards away from you, and the heat was distributed like paint on a Pollock masterpiece. I hear it actually made the food colder out toward the edges, but this is only legend. Anyway, I needed to drastically improve both of these deficiencies in my gasser, and for the price, the Grillin' Pro 3001 goes an excellent job. Heat distribution is very good, excellent for the $200 range. No major cold spots, the center is the hottest, natch, and the bottom edges tend to be the coolest. As far as temperature goes, this thing gets about as hot as a plutonium reactor. On high, this thing can get to 850° for sure and can even reach 900°! This thing cranks out some high heat, so if you want to do some serious searing, this is the right grill for you. Even the lowest burner settings still get pretty hot, it takes some getting used to, but you can and will make some great grilled grub once you get the hang of it. From steaks to salmon, it cooks some mean meat. I had one Lodge griddle, then purchased another to throw on top to make it into a jury-rigged griddle top, it works great! This is a good grill. I can't speak to it's longevity as I've only had it for a few months, but it's a solid grill that makes great food. This is not a boast every gas grill can make.

I purchased original 3001 model back in 2008. It was very inexpensive relatively to other grills, yet it was much more durable and sturdy than any other <$600 models that come in thin stainless metal body. The E3001 is hard as rock. You can hit with a rock, and nothing will show. I used the grill during April-November time frame. I always have a cover on it to protect from elements. I also keep it in the garage during the winter months. After about 8 years, the flame shields rusted through and I replaced them. The sad part was that brackets that hold the flame shield in the old model were permanently welded and could not be replaced. As a result, new shields were barely hanging on the what was left of the brackets. This year my grill turned 10 years and once the gas pressure dropped for some reason, so I decided it was time to replace it. I was so thrilled to find out it is till available for less than <$200. I bought it and two days later I received the new 3001 model. The package was super heavy, so I had to gently roll it into the garage, as I couldn't carry it. Once I started the assembly, I was pleasantly surprised to see all the small improvements that Char Griller did to this model. First of all, the new brackets are screwed to the body, not welded. That means that once they rust, I could replace them. As a matter of fact, I decided to order replacements for all 6 support brackets for only $12 from the manufacturer. Since the original gas tube lasted for 10 years, I decided no point to buy replacement at the moment. I did buy 3 screws that used to attached tube to the support bracket for future ($0.25/ea). Also, during the assembly, I noticed that cooking grates are now has little pin to hold them in place, and not to move sideways. I also noticed that thermometer looks more sturdy now although the old one worked all the way to the end. By the way, it worth noting that everything was super well packed and protected inside the package. All the parts are clearly marked with labels, or all metal parts have arrows or up/down in/out words press fitted. All the hardware is clearly marked, and instructions were very easy to follow. It still took 2-3 hours but I was taking my time quite honestly. The only suggestion / hint with assembly is that when it was a time to attach the lower half of the body to the Leg Cross Bars with 6 screws, all holes were misaligned. So what I had to do was to swap the left and right Leg Cross Bar (only few screws had to be disconnected) and all the holes were aligned. I think this is the only gotcha because left and right side Leg Cross Bars are truly identical. Knowing how well the old one help up, and with improved design and few extra replacement brackets, I likely will get more than 10 years on this model. Thank you Char Griller for making a good product even better and offering at such a bargain price!

These are substantially built grills for the money, steel built with a look and feel somewhat like a barrel made grill. We own three of them. The first was purchased five or more years ago when we got tired of replacing other sheet-metal type grills every couple of years. A couple years ago, I did replace the gas jets and and the metal deflectors that go over them, but that's one advantage to the Char-Griller line, replacement parts tend to be available on Amazon or from the company itself. This older grill sits in the open on an uncovered deck, and we're bad about forgetting to put the cover back on. Considering its age and the elements, there's very little rust on it, certainly none that would present an issue or threatens to cause structural failure. We had such good luck with this grill, we purchased two more when we bought a couple of vacation rental cabins earlier this year. We're not afraid of nicks or dings because this grill is made of thicker metal than comparably priced competitors. One thing that could be improved is access to turning the gas tank on and off. The grill's upper support bracket on the wheel side is in a place that makes it awkward to reach the tank valve to turn it on and off. It can be done but, as I said, it's awkward. Guests at our cabins have complimented the grill provided. Char-Griller grills are made in China. Last weekend, we found a similar sized grill by Char-Broil on seasonal close-out at a big box discounter. Seeing the Char-Grillers have crept up a bit in price this year, we opted for the Char-Broil. I say this only to do some side by side comparisons. The Char-Broil seems to be a much lighter grade of steel, it heats up slower than our Char-Grillers, and it doesn't reach as high of temperatures, and doesn't seem to retain heat as well. If you preference is to grill in lower temperature ranges, the Char-Broil may give you more control in the 250 to 400 degree range. Because of the lighter grade of steel, we were cautioned by the purchase store's department manager not to carry the Char-Broil by its side wings. The Char-Broil came with caster type wheels, those on a Char-Griller are bigger plastic wheels on one side and make it easier to move the grill across a lawn. We're not so concerned about the Char-Broil grill being exposed to the weather, unlike the Char-Grillers, it will be kept in a sheltered area. When not in use, we do (mostly) use the custom covers to protect our Char-Grillers outdoors. The newer covers seem lighter and more like vinyl. Our original cover, at least five years old, is faded, but has more of a canvas feel, and shows no signs of rips or tears, though it has faded from black to gray. The Char-Griller 3001 is somewhat easy to put together (it gets easier each time I assemble one), but it can seem a slow and tedious task. If I recall, I only needed a screw driver, but a socket wrench might be helpful. Working at a leisurely pace, I may have spent two to three hours putting my last one together. Overall, we've had very pleasing experiences with Char-Grillers (all ours have been the 3001 model), and expect those we have to give us years of service. Even our older one may have several more years of life left.

Former line cook and bar manager. I bought this about a year ago and have used it consistently. Wanted to have a good pool of experience before I wrote a review. EXPECTATIONS V.S. REALITY: I was looking for something with the highest heat potential/BTU at a low [if not lowest] price point. The heat output is definately as advertised! There are very distinct hot spots and cool spots, but that is something I expected/most people can take advantage of. This grill is more than capable of putting a hard char on Ribeye steaks and leaving a nice Mid Rare center. If you can do basic maintenance on a gas grill [definately line the interior with foil, detail clean regularly and use foodsafe oil on the grates/flavor bars], I am very confident it will last a long time. I did buy a cover and kept mine in a shed over a Pennsylvania winter. The side burner gets wicked hot and can compare to a stovetop in terms of output and eveness. Lastly, The push button start has not failed me once this past year. THE ASSEMBLY: While I've put together a lot of prefab furniture, this is the only grill I've done. The instructions are adequate and well illustrated, but budget a full day for assembly. I was brushing the top rack a little hard the other week and part of it fell apart... Right away I saw I had screwed up the sequence of a nut and kotter pin. Luckily I collected all the parts and could quickly correct the error. It's a beast to put together, but I can't imagine any other brand being much easier. FINAL THOUGHTS: Of all the Amazon buys I've made the past 2 or 3 years, I'd stand by this beyond all else. I'm very proud of this purchase; this was a steal. If you know basic stuff about gas grills [or can watch some youtube videos] I'm confident this grill is the best bang for your buck. If Char-Griller staff sees this, don't chase the fancy Traegar world. You've got a killer entry level model to build a great rep on. Keep bringing more of the same and I will be a loyal customer!

Ich bin sehr zufrieden. Sehr schwer und stabil. Super verarbeitet.

Love this barbecue.

I'm going for 4 stars only because of the instructions (which are pretty rubbish). I've not fired her up yet but the instructions that came with it took me nearly 3 hours to assemble. BBQ itself is sturdy but I did have a problem with one of the legs fitting together as the attachment threaded due to the thin metal on the legs- as a result I had to find another bolt and nut to improvise. Happy with the end result though- just need to fire her up now!

Soddisfattissimo dell'acquisto.

Completely useless. It took 8 hours to put together (and I’m an aeronautical engineer!) instructions are non existent, finally put it all together only to find the gas adapter doesn’t fit uk gas bottles. I bought 2 adapters before realising I’d need to change the hose as well which you can’t because of the fitting at the bbq end. I feel completely robbed of time and money. I’m so angry about this. Why sell this to uk customers????
