I love that it is soft for my toddler to play with. I also love that it includes so many figures, including animals, shepherds, angels, wisemen, and of course Jesus, Mary, and Joseph. I did put a few of the smaller pieces in a drawer (chicken, dog, sheep, star), because my daughter puts them all in her mouth and those might be a choking hazard, but she will love playing with them in the future. Right now I don't mind her chewing on the bigger pieces. She loves playing with them!

Toy nativity sets are so hard to find! I don't understand why that is. Years ago, we bought a toy set, but the pieces were kind of ugly and the kids didn't like it much. Fisher Price has one, but it's expensive and it doesn't have any angels or shepherds. This set has everything you need to tell the whole Nativity story. And the pieces are just darling cute, so that's a huge plus! Guys, I really have been looking for a cute toy Nativity set. Every Christmas I look and I'm disappointed. So finding this set was a huge win for me.Like others have mentioned, and even the product description, there is a weird smell to the plastic, especially when you open it. Every piece comes individually wrapped, so I'm thinking they haven't had a chance to off-gas whatever it is. When I first opened these, the smell became a priority for me. I washed them in a metal bowl with hot soapy water and set them out to dry. Comically, in one of the pictures I shared you can see one of the wise men still had a bit of water in him when I set them up for pictures. I really don't think the smell is the paint because the outside of these don't smell anymore after washing them. These are a soft material like a rubber duckie, and when you squeeze them and smell the air inside, it still has that smell. But I've only had it about a week. I think it will fade in time.The paint job on these is pretty good, I think. The gold on the wise men and their treasure is really pretty and shiny. The treasure chest is really fun- I could see the kids stealing it from the nativity set to incorporate into other games. There are so many animals too. I also like that it comes with an extra manger since some people like to have an empty manger leading up to Christmas and then they swap them on Christmas morning to show that baby Jesus is born.This will be a really fun early Christmas present for our kids. I'm really excited for them to open it! I'm sure they'll have a lot of fun with it. I've wanted a full Nativity set for years, but I didn't want a ceramic one since we have lots of kids and I don't want them to be all pins and needles around things like this. I prefer hands-on things. And this Nativity set will be fun for guests to see and fiddle with too. It's a great find!

My grandchildren love to play with our nativity set so I thought they would probably love this. I opened it up to see how everything looked and found each piece sealed in its own plastic bag. I opened one and was surprised at how bad it smelled. The product page says they "may have a slight smell". That's an understatement, they have a really strong chemical smell. I opened all of the bags and found that they all smelled horrible. I left them out overnight in the garage and found that they were mostly all right in the morning. I washed them all in dish soap and water and when I was done the smell was gone. The product page says they are perfectly safe and non-toxic, but I am unconvinced, and I don't think I would give them to kids that put everything in their mouths.The pieces all have great colors, and they are pleasantly squishy. There is a large variety of characters: Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus of course, wise men, kings, angels, animals and even some props like a tree and treasure chest. The stable lights up. Overall, I am pleased with this set but I'm a little worried about what they are made of based on how bad they smelled. Plus, some of the pieces are really small. I'd recommend keeping them away from the really little ones, but they should be fine for three and up.
