Great oven
This is a great grill. I have used it for a year and it is still strong and durable. The meat grilled with charcoal is very fragrant. My children sometimes use the small oven. It is a very good design. I like it very much and it is worth recommending.

Instructions and cooking
I loved how easy it was to put together, first I was intimidated but following the instructions step by step and not tightening the bolts tight at first was a great idea on my part took me 2 hours to put together but remember this was my first project, I took the charcoal grates out and lined with aluminum foil and smoked 3 Louisiana style ribs using regular charcoal briquettes,to start the fire, then added oak lump charcoal, and apple wood chunks for smoking flavor. Using the IQ chef probe was able to regulate the ambient temperature and internal temperature. The only draw back is the temperature gauge on the unit still registering 100° cold. I love this offset smoker grill combo.

Reliable!
The Captiva Designs Heavy Duty Outdoor Smoker is a great option for those looking for a durable and reliable smoker for outdoor cooking. The heavy-duty construction and thoughtful design make it easy to smoke a variety of meats, fish, and vegetables. The temperature control is accurate and consistent, ensuring that your food comes out perfectly every time. Additionally, the spacious cooking area gives you plenty of room to smoke large cuts of meat or multiple items at once. Overall, the Captiva Designs Heavy Duty Outdoor Smoker is an excellent choice. The instructions were a little confusing. According to the instructions, it should take about 40 min to assemble it; maybe if you have done it before but that wasn’t my case.

One my most disappointing purchases
One of my complaints is actually my fault. I really did not think about the diameter of the barrel. It was more looking at the length and should’ve gotten out a yardstick and measured out the diameter. The barrel is just too small for how I use it. Typically I’m doing two large pieces of meat like the pork butts you get at Costco. I prefer to do them in the foil pans there’s just not enough air to do two at a time. It pretty much takes up most of the space in the smoker. If you buy this, make sure you consider all of the dimensions. Now onto the list of reasons why I regret this purchase:1. The instructions are horrible. All diagrams No Text. I’m pretty good at assembling things and previously read reviews about attaching the legs so I need to keep those screws very very loose. The rest of it was more complicated than it needed to be because of the poor directions. Which should’ve taken 30 minutes to an hour took me four hours of having to figure things out. I also wish every manufacturer would put one or two extra screws and bolts of each type in a package which this manufacturer did not. It was precisely as many as you needed, and not one spare.2. I was on a tight budget. Otherwise I would have bought the larger model for the pull out drawer to take out ashes. I bought this one because it was in the same price range as your average Walmart smoker/barbecue but it had a door that opened on the side to remove the ash. That’s all fine and dandy but there’s minimal space between the great that holds your charcoal and where the ashes fall and the great has large holes so as the Kohl’s become smaller, you end up, raking them out along with the ash and they still have some life left in them. if you’re doing something low and slow getting that out of there is important as you add more cokes.3. in all reality if you’re planning on doing a brisket or Boston butt or anything low and slow, this is just not gonna be a good purchase. I don’t grill I smoke. See next item.4. it is impossible to get this up to the right temperature and keep it at that temperature. The smoke leaks out badly around the lid of each of the barrels but it’s worse in the larger barrel. Some leaks out where you attach the two barrels, and I wish I would’ve thought about that before I assembled it because I would’ve created some sort of seal there. I have the fix for the lids leaking but it’s more money and just a giant pain in the backside.5. Their smaller Barrel is just never going to be sufficient for smoking low and slow. The highest temperature I was able to achieve was 200° could not maintain it. Then there’s constantly having to start new coals in a separate container and then dumping them in when they’re done burning and getting the ass out. I’ve actually done this with another smoker but for whatever reason the combination of problems with this smoker, makes it a Knogo.6. The thermometer was useful for exactly one day. We had an unexpected bout of rain, and the thermometer is not waterproof. So now it’s filled with rainwater. Why on earth would you use something not waterproof in an outdoor item?7. The great in front is actually fairly sturdy but it’s not all that deep. For dinner plate, size something it’s all right but if you’re like me and you’re carrying a large cut of meat out on a big tray, it won’t hold it. This product is not going to work for your Boston butts, Briskets and a rack of ribs. They might barely fit.So yesterday I did a brisket. The highest temperature I achieved is 250 which is fine. I usually will do even lower than that for a longer period of time. I used up an entire large bag of charcoal plus the saturated applewood chips that I’m fond of And the best that it could achieve was five hours of a temperature between 150 and 200. I had to finish it off in the oven and wasn’t happy with the results results.7. The absolute most annoying thing is probably the design of the hinge that holds the door on the small barrel closed. That gets hot when you’re using it. If you’re pulling out in the middle of a run, you can’t touch it with bare hands. The top of the barrel is in the way from completely lifting off that little hook so you have to lift it up a little bit and then open the door and it’ll swing out of the way. It’s a big problem closing the door because you have to get the door almost closed and then move the hinge in a position slightly above the screw. It drops over, then close the door, and then let the hook drop. The engineer who decided to design it this way should be out of !I will use the bottle opener, so no comment on that. The handles are pretty sturdy and don’t get all that hot.I think one of the many reasons why it doesn’t maintain temperature is the metal it’s constructed out of. Sold my cheap double barrel a decade ago when I moved. Kid you know it was cheap and I bought it at Walmart. It was much thicker than this Barrel. Between the leaks and the thin material, there’s probably no hope of getting a good result beyond using it as a grillYes, I’m pretty bummed!

Highly recommend!
I really love this charcoal grill, especially for outdoor barbecues. The beef grilled on it tastes amazing, far better than on an electric grill. The overall material of this grill looks very nice, sturdy, and durable for long-term use. I especially like its design, which is not only practical but also aesthetically pleasing. If you also enjoy outdoor barbecues, I highly recommend this grill!

Some flaws,
Bought this to replace a older smoker , I used it at Thanksgiving and it does the job, if I could add that for the cost it is worth the price, but the grill part needs to have holes drilled with a sliding bar to allow more air to enter the chamber so the coals can get enough oxygen to burn, otherwise decent grill,
